Windows 10: Windows 10 Freezes While Installing Updates; Always Have to Reset PC

If you use DISM /online /image-cleanup /restorehealth and provide good input to the /source parameter, you may be able to repair your current installation. I'd try that before doing an in-place repair install, which I'd do before performing a clean install. This is kind of a "standard repair sequence" when it comes to fixing Windows corruption or misbehavior issues.

Tutorials on the in-place repair install and the clean install are also available, but I'll forgo linking to them here. I'm not deliberately withholding info: just politely trying to steer you toward DISM repair as a starting point.

Just tried that and it again got to 96.4% and then I got "Error: 1726. The remote call procedure failed."

 

Excuse my request for detail: can you reproduce verbatim the DISM command that's provoking that response, please? This may tell us something and then again, it may not. Won't until until we can see it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I entered DISM /online /image-cleanup /restorehealth /source:esd:F:\sources\install.esd:1

I had it saved on a USB drive of you were wondering.

 

Just did an in-place repair install and then ran sfc /scannow. It came back with "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." I think it might be good now.

 

Scratch that thought. Just did a restart and it froze yet again.

 

Keep trying and let us know what you find out. If you can run DISM /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth and get "no component store corruption detected" you'll have passed an important milestone. Please report back, and thanks. We'll get to the bottom of this.

You can use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open a menu and select:
Command Prompt (Admin).
