Windows 10: Windows 10 Power Users group.

I'm looking for information on the permissions above the standard "Users" group that "Power Users" has.


Everything I have found states that Power Users in Win 10 has NO permissions above the standard user, but that is obviously not the case.


I have two applications that will not function properly on Win 10. They launch, but pieces inside do not work properly unless they are run as Admin, or as Power User. I have tried several shims, including RunasInvoker and ElevateCreateProcess, but none work.


Any information on what the "Power Users" group opens up would be appreciated so I can back track and get these working as a standard user.

Power Users Group in Windows 10 Pro

Hello,

We've just upgraded a laptop from Windows 10 Home to Professional and we need to make one of the users a "Power User" for a certain "old" application to work.

However, there is no "Power Users" group in the Local Users/Group Management.

On our machines that were upgraded from Windows 7 the Group exists for legacy compatibility.

In all the research I've done, there is nothing out there that has any information regarding this.

How can I add this group to this Windows 10 machine?

Hello Frank, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If you have the Windows 10 Home edition, then it will not have Local Users and Groups (lusrmgr.msc) included in it. It's only available in the Pro and Enterprise editions instead.

If you like, you could use step 3 in OPTION THREE of the tutorial below list users in a group.

Hey Brink, I was just looking at groups in netplwiz today and I noticed that my user account is just in the Admin group now, it used to be in Users and Admin. I have home, so I can't change it. I don't know how it changed. I guess there's nothing I can do about it. Will it be a problem?
I'm tempted to downgrade to my 8.1 pro and go to 10 pro.
