Windows 10 Sign in with Pin + Microsoft Account

If I do not use a Microsoft Account, I can sign in with a PIN. If I connect the Microsoft Account, I am not able to use the PIN to sign in.

Also I cannot access the Feedback app since it says I have to be signed in -- but i am able to Sign In to the Windows 10 Technical Preview site. Has anyone else had similar issues?

If you all want screenies just let me know and I can post.

    :)

  3. Microsoft Account vs Local Account on Windows 10

The PIN option is built in to Windows 10, and is available regardless of using a Microsoft account or a Local account to sign-in. You can add/change/remove your PIN by going to
Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in options, and looking in the PIN section.

You cannot access the windows feedback app as you are using a local account I assume, however i am not sure why you cannot use a PIN as I have one setup.

  5. The local account and the MS account have separate profiles (or did). Try creating a pin, the same or different, when you sign-in with the MSA. I've never tried pins, so I'm not sure if both local and MSA sign-ins offer that option.

I use a local account exclusively. To access MS services that require a MSA account, I click the text sign in each app individually near the [Next] button. If you provide your MSA credentials, you should be able to sign-in to an app, say Feedback, without switching to a MSA account on your machine.

This approach requires that you sign-in to each app individually - Feedback, Store, Mail ... that's why there's the (not recommended) note - MS thinks it's easier if you can always access any service through any app by switching to a MSA on your machine.

I'm more comfortable signing-in to my machine with a local account and if I want to run something that requires a MSA, I sign in to those that I want to use. Windows remembers so you only have to do it once for each app.

Take Games for example, I never want to sign in with my MSA to play a game (solitaire, mahjong), so I just hit the cancel button.

Well, I use a MSA account exclusively and I added that in. However, when I do that, I can no longer sign in by PIN. So I think it is a bug...

  7. added what in, a PIN for the MSA account?
If you added a pin for the MSA account, then it does sound like a bug

    Feedback to MS.

Feedback to MS. I wish I could Feedback to MS but I also cannot access that feature -- it asks me to sign in...

Ah well. I'll just wait for the next build and do a fresh load.

    Hi Jefferson,
Sign-in PIN works only on a Local Account. When you switch to Microsoft account PIN becomes unavailable. This is a known issue.

Since Windows 10 Technical preview is a testing environment changes are being made based on the feedback we receive. Please wait for the next update from Windows to fix the issue.
Refer the steps mentioned by 'Nathan Roberts (SunkNath)' in the article provided.

Please check to see if it is the mail address you have used to register up to the Feedback service for Windows is the same that is showing in the PC settings.

  11. Well there, ya go - it's a known issue.

    A Kumar is awfully confident:
Please wait for the next update from Windows to fix the issue.
not, wait to see if the next update.... *chuckle

Both links A Kumar provided seemed to be more about pinning things. than using a PIN to sign in.

If you want, I'll try to help with MSA, sign-in, Feedback app, stuff.
We know the PIN on a MSA sign-in is a known issue.

The first thing I'd like you to do, is switch back to a local account and restart the machine.
Do not use the PIN to sign-in to Windows, type your password.

Then try the Feedback app, using the sign-in to each app individually option (don't switch to your MSA yet).
You'll have to enter your MSA account Dad@somemail.com and your password. MS would prefer that you send sign-in to the feedback app with the same MSA that you sign-in to the MS Insider Program (MS-IP). You mentioned that you can sign in to the MS-IP.

I'm not sure what state your apps are in due to the PIN - it might have more issues than just using one in an MSA.

The idea is to type your password when it is required. I would expect that to override any residue that might exist from your using a PIN - don't know for sure though.

Are you able to sign in to ANY app?
Try this: re-register all aps. I don't think this is the issue on your machine, but it won't hurt.

  12. To me, it defeats the purpose of using a pin, if signing with a MSA disables the PIN. I don't like having to sign in with my long MS password. Strange, that MS is not more flexible. Guess I'll switch to a local account.

  15. Hi

I found that I could no longer log in with a pin as well, so I just told it to skip the login screen altogether.

Open the Run Window, type netplwiz and it will open a popup window.
Uncheck the box that says the the user must use a user name and password to log in.

Type your password in twice and click Apply and your computer will just long in when you boot it up.

This works with my User or my Microsoft account.
