Windows 10: Windows 10 startup problem

I held shift and clicked on the power icon......nothing happened

 

Not exactly what I said.
My instructions were....... press SHIFT key and hold > click Power icon > click Restart.

 

@chris521957 - hi, are you saying that whatever you click on on that logon screen, you get no response whatsoever?

Hi, this means you can't log in at all, so you will need an Win 10 bootable medium (USB or DVD) to proceed further, so you can boot your PC from a DVD or USB flash drive.

That must be the same build (presumably 10586) as your OS and 64 bits if your PC is 64 bits, else 32 bits.

Do you already have one?

Did you ever turn system restore on? (It's off by default in 10).
So if you didn't, you won't any System Restore points. Do you know if you have any?

Finally (for now) do you have any important data on your C: drive/partition? If so, do you have backups of everything?

 

Sorry for the delay. Work. No, i dont have any backup, I didnt turn on system restore (i thought it was automatic), and i have nothing of any importance on the laptop. I am grateful to everyone for taking the time to help, but this is really confusing me, so i think i will take it to the repair shop to see if they can do anything for it. Thanks to all once again.

 

Hi, ok, save yourself some money (and maybe time) and simply reinstall win 10.. (or using a Win 10 bootable medium you may be able to go back to your previous version if < 30 days from installing Win 10).

A clean install is safest. Suggest you format your disk.

If you don't already have a disk or USB or iso, the iso is freely downloadable, and will activate automatically.
