Windows 10: Windows 10 Version 1507 update failure

I have a x86 based machine that I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Every time I run Windows Update, the software attempts to install Version 1507, and fails. I don't know why the update app continues and fails to try this update. I am not sure how to find my current update version to see if Windows id trying to install an obsolete update over a more current one. Can I get some guidance on how to troubleshoot and fix this problem? I am getting ready to change the motherboard and CPU, so I want to get the software sorted out before I do so.

Windows 10 version 1507 will no longer receive security updates

After May 9, 2017, Windows 10 devices running version 1507 will no longer receive security and quality updates. Microsoft recommends updating devices to the latest version of Windows 10 by visiting the Software Download site and selecting Update now to manually update your device. Security updates will continue to be made available for both Windows 10 Enterprise 2015 LTSB and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2015 LTSB.

Since the initial release of Windows 10 in July 2015, Microsoft has released two additional feature updates that build upon each other, delivering the newest features and more comprehensive security. Windows 10 was designed as a service, whereby feature updates are required a few times a year. For most consumers, both quality and feature updates are delivered automatically according to their Windows Update settings. By policy, devices need to install the latest feature update within a 60-day grace period of its release to continue to be eligible for monthly servicing with security updates and other quality updates. We extended this grace period for version 1507 beyond this typical 60-day policy, but the time has now come to end servicing for version 1507.

How do I know which version of Windows 10 I'm running?

In the search box on the taskbar, type winver and then press Enter. This opens the About Windows dialog box, where you'll see the version of Windows 10 that's running on your device.

If your version is listed as 10.0 in the About Windows dialog box, Microsoft recommends updating your device to the latest version by visiting the Software Download site and selecting Update now to manually update your device.

Make sure that your PC is connected to the Internet. And also make sure you're using an unmetered network, because most updates won't be installed if you’re using a metered Internet connection.

If you don't have enough drive space to install the update, you might be able to free up drive space to accommodate it.

The Windows 10 system requirements page provides the minimum hardware requirements. If your PC meets or exceeds the requirements, use the Windows Update Troubleshooter to try to fix the problem.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

Open a new Explorer window.

Click View in the ribbon.

Click Options.

Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”

Click OK
