Windows 10: Windows 10 won't upgrade, any ideas?

Yes. It usually takes me 3 hours to install a new iso and I live in a city, not somewhere in the wilderness.

Well I followed the instructions to the letter. It certainly did something as new updates became available after the successful completion.
Yet it still shows the wrong version. As a matter of fact, the displays that I see, do not match forum examples of About the Computer or winver. I've attached to show the difference







Neither of these show the information that my wife's computer does in reference to version or build.

I am not sure what is going on anymore.
How was it possible that you installed with the new iso files and still ended up with 10240.
I am puzzled.

You said there are new updates available. Please make sure they are installed, then wait and see what comes after that.

By the way, it's time to update your system specs. It still says Win 7 Ultimate.

Yes very strange. My update history has been cleared except for the two updates installed after the completion.





I ran check updates after these installed and nothing else was available. Does your winver and about computer not show the version number like mine?
Immensely appreciative of your help!
Maybe someone that has solved this problem may choose to answer and continue the process.

 

That is another computer and don't know how/haven't listed another system spec.

My winver shows the correct version. No idea what is wrong with yours.

At the top of the forum page, click User CP > left side, click Edit System Spec

IMO, either approach has it's potential advantages or disadvantages. I see nothing wrong with either nor any reason to characterize either choice as a "compulsion". The fact that it took me in excess of 7 minutes to compose my response while I tended to multiple tasks may have confused you about the post sequencing. If that's the case, I apologize for complicating things and wish you a nice day.

Your problem is you aren't using the correct ISO.

Why not check the creation date before you start the upgrade again? If you are using the ISO you downloaded within the last day the it will upgrade you to 1511 or fail.

If you use an old ISO with build 10240 is will do a repair install (and you'll then get all the old updates from Windows update again).

From this thread it seems 2x you have done a repair install. Perhaps you should delete all windows 10 ISO you have (just to be sure) and download again from the links @davidhk gave you (or at least check the date). There is other ways to be more certain what an ISO contains but the date is a pretty good start.

As your pointed out "Happy New Year" to you and to all the members! The ISO I previously downloaded and burned is dated 12/18/15.
The image I downloaded last night from the links @davidhk are marked 12/18/15. Where might I try to locate a later version that might be the correct ISO? Thanks for your time and lending a hand!

 

It sounds like it should be correct. However lets make sure...

Only run the upgrade again if your version is definitely 10586 where it says "Version" above *Smile
