Windows 10: Windows photo viewer skips some pictures

I am using the default photo viewer on Windows 10. I have been looking through thousands of photos. They are in folders in My Pictures, with about 400-1500 per folder. Especially with the bigger folders, it will show the first few photos fine, but eventually it will skip a bunch for no apparent reason.


For example:

I might have a folder with 800 photos.

Photos 1-200 are shown in order

Only 450 of photos 201-800 are shown.


However, if I start at photo 201, then:

Photos 201-350 are shown in order

Only 350 of photos 351 - 800 are shown


These numbers are made up, they're just an example. I just wanted to make it really clear that it does not depend on the photos themselves. There are no compatibility issues. And it never skips the first few photos that I look at. Wherever I start looking, the issues crop up later on.


I have found that it seems to be more likely to skip photos if my computer is running slowly or if I'm multi-tasking. Not knowing anything about computers, it feels like pictures are queued up in some sort of temporary memory which has limited capacity, and only stores some photos further down the track.

Unable to open pictures in Windows Photo Viewer on Windows 10.

• Do you have Windows Photo Viewer files on your PC?
• Did you check if Windows Photo Viewer is present as a Default application to view photos on your PC?

I suggest you to check if Windows Photo Viewer option is present as a default application to view photos by following steps below:

• Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type Default programs and select the top most search result.
• Click on the default set photo viewer application under Photo viewer and check if
  Windows Photo Viewer is present under Choose an app window.
• If yes, click on Windows Photo Viewer, close the window and check if the changes are effective.

Picture formats Windows Photo viewer will display in Windows 10.

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

  Do you mean Photo app?
  
• 
  Are you not able to open a picture format type in the Photo app?
  

Photo app supports all picture format types to display on the screen. It will not open the photos whose picture format is not set to open in Photo app viewer. Set the Photo app viewer as the default picture viewer to the open pictures in that particular
app.



To set Photo app as the default photo viewer, follow the steps below:

• 
  Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type Settings and select the top most search result.
  
• 
  Click on System option from the window and select
  Default apps from the left side panel of the screen.
  
• 
  Under Choose Default apps, click on
  Photo viewer option and choseWindows
  Photo app.
  
• 
  Close the window and check if the changes are effective.
  

You can also set different photo viewer applications for different picture formats by following the steps below:

• 
  Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type Settings
  and select the top most search result.
  
• 
  Click on System option from the window and select

  Scroll down the page and click on Choose default apps by file type.

  Click on the file type from the window and select an application to make it as default from

How to get rid of raw file support in windows photo viewer?




I have downloaded this, and it did not work; photo viewer is not in the list of programs in Open With or Default App. I used option 2 step 3, followed by step 5 to 9.
