    Windows Update and IE 11

I just allowed the latest Windows 10 updates to take effect on my computer.....since the updates I can no longer access IE 11 - when I click on IE, I get a message telling me I do not have access to it. I have tried from all ways including programme files but none will access it. I tried a repair but even that won't run.

I hate EDGE....so has anyone any ideas about how to access IE once again please.

Also, how can I stop Windows from running updates....seems every time it updates something goes wrong....it is driving me mad! *Mad

    Thank you

    :)

IE 11 fails immediately on opening in Win 10

I am running Windows 10 on an HP laptop. IE 11 began failing immediately on opening -- every time. I've tried disabling IE 11, and restarting the laptop. IE was working fine until 24 hours ago. All updates are current. Is there any way to "repair"
    IE 11 in Windows 10?

System Restore should work . if you have it enabled? , WinUpdate should of made a Restore point before running the Updates on Tuesday.

    Hi Beechesgirl,
Go to Control panel, Programs and Features, click "Turn Windows features on or off", untick IE11 if it's already ticked, if not tick IE11, reboot and see whether IE11 works.

Thanks brummyfan - I did try that first after searching the internet for solutions - but it did not work.

I have since done a System Restore as suggested by Kbird - it took an hour to find system restore - Windows 10 does not make it easy for you! After the restore I found my mouse and keyboard would not work so had to force a system shutdown. I only just have everything back up and appears to be running - the great news is that IE 11 is now working again.

It certainly seems that every update creates problems somewhere - I have still not managed to get the links in Windows LiveMail working since December - the only way to be able to click on a link is to open IE at the same time - an absolute nuisance but have had to do that for the last six months.

    Thanks for the help.

I thought I had finally resolved the IE problem but then found the google toolbar had been deleted so I could not search the internet - I tried downloading it again through Edge but this would not allow me to download it....I eventually found a rather backdoor way of getting onto the internet via one of my favourites and then used the browser to connect to google and download the toolbar....what a long-winded way of having to put windows updates right again. I have now discovered how to turn the updates off completely and have done so. Would rather go without than have this hassle again. *Mad

    Try this:
    Launch Command Prompt (Admin)
    Right click the Windows icon
Windows Update and IE 11 [IMG]
(aka Start button) on the taskbar

    Enter the following commands:
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    SFC /ScanNow
If there are any errors on the screen after the commands run,
    Navigate to C:\Windows\Logs
    Right click the CBS folder
Select Send to > Compressed (zip) folder
answer yes to place on DesktopAttach the zip folder to your next post
    Full tutorials:
Run "DISM /Cleanup-Image" Tool in Command Prompt
Run SFC /SCANNOW Command in Windows 10

Thanks for your reply. I am really not that good on things like "launch command prompt admin" or where to find them. I am a fairly basic user who is very confused by windows 10 and where to find all the things they have hidden in this programme that were readily available before. I can't even find the search bar or 'run'....my computer doesn't show these for some reason....and since the updates and having to restore my computer I now have install.ins files. thumbs.db files and desktop.ini files everywhere. Oh for an AppleMac....!!

  10. You're not alone ... It took me a while to go from Win7 to Win8 *Wink

Right click everything - lots of things have been moved to context menus

Read my post again - the instructions are there... but maybe it should start this way:

    Right click the Windows icon
Windows Update and IE 11 [IMG]
(aka Start button) on the taskbar
    Select Command Prompt (Admin)
Then you can copy the commands (large font) in my previous post and paste them into the Command Prompt window

To paste in the Command Prompt window
    Right click

An easy way to search: Press the Windows key [
Windows Update and IE 11 [IMG]
] and just starting typing what you're searching for, the search box doesn't appear until you type the first character

Or you can place the search bar on the Taskbar
    Right click the Taskbar
    Select Show Search

See how handy Right click is - that was 3 examples
Once you get past this issue, remember ... when you get stuck, right click the file, folder, taskbar, icon, ... thing and see what the menu offers.
