I just checked my update history and there were only 2 updates listed, both installed on 5/2. Isn't there supposed to be a complete list of updates? I know my list is always longer than this. Don't understand.

    :)

I suppose it depends on when you installed/upgraded to Windows 10. I did in the beginning of april, and have 5 updates listed. Two flash player updates, one malware removal, one 1511 update, and one 1511 cumulative update.

Windows defender updates don't seem to be counted there. Despite Windows Update notifying of Win Defender updates available, WD often does the updates on its own, outside of Windows Update, which may explain things.

I bought the computer in January with Win10 installed, and the updates have been arriving ever since. I had a long list of updates but now I have only the 2 on May 2. What do you think could have happened to the others? I know on or around that day (May 2), there was a long process just as I was shutting the computer down. It was loading a new version or something...took about 30 minutes. The computer kept restarting, etc.. Then the next day I noticed when I turned on the computer, I had a virtual keyboard that appeared at the bottom of the screen. I appreciate your reply. If you can elaborate after reading this please do. thanks again. BTW, the computer is working great...no problems.

  6. If SoftwareDistribution folder is deleted, all history will disappear or simply, if it gets damaged.

You can try running those commands in CMD to check for integrity and a proper cleanup:

    winmgmt /salvagerepository
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
    cleanmgr /sageset:65535 & cleanmgr /sagerun:65535
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

I've NEVER been able to get Command Prompt work for me. I'm not even sure I know how to get it started. I'll try copying and pasting your instructions and see if I can get it to work. Wouldn't the computer be behaving erratically if those updates have somehow been deleted?

Right click the start flag and select Command Prompt (Admin) and see if that works for you.

I got command prompt to come up, pasted the instructions in and it said "access denied". When I hit "enter" CCleaner activated. Should that have happened?

Just checked for updates and got the following message: Your device is up to date. Last checked: Today, ‏‎12:42 PM. If this is true, then what happened to my list of old updates? As I said in my original post, I did receive some extensive download that took about 30 minutes on, I believe, Monday. The computer kept starting and restarting and there was a message they they had performed various "tweaks" to make windows perform better. All I noticed was when it was over I had a virtual keyboard that pops up when you start the computer. It's working fine. Should I assume all is well.

UPDATE ON UPDATES...Called Microsoft yesterday, and to my surprise they actually helped. They remotely accessed my computer and found the updates, which had automatically gone to a folder...where I cannot say, but I could see them as the tech scrolled down the list. They said all was well w/my computer. I know I just posted this, hit mark as solved and my post went away, so this is probably a duplicate. Thanks again to those on this forum who offered advice. It's comforting to know that I have this resource.

I would not be surprised that CCleaner is behind that disappearance, and I suppose MS found another place where the info remains.

If you want to know what your system's patch level is, I suppose you can use the sysinfo command line tool, and look at both the OS version and patches installed. I get this :

    OS version : 10.0.10586 N/A version 10586

    Patches : [01]: KB3135173,[02]: KB3136561,[03]: KB3140741,[04]: KB3140768,[05]: KB3142588,[06]: KB3154132,[07]: KB3147458

I guess you have the same...

How do I keep CCleaner from deleting my update list, if that's what happened?

  14. It could not have been CCleaner, I use it to clean everything, all items checked, and it never did that.

I didn't think so either. I think it had something to do with the big update I got on or around the day the list went away. Anyway, MS tech said it was normal and all is well. The updates are there, just tucked away in a folder.
