Hello Everyone, I have just purchased Windows 10 Home 64 bit. I do like it, but I have had to unplug the pc, and
go back to my Windows 7 pc due to the updates.I have a NBN Satellite dish and in the few days I was using Windows 10 it had used up 5gbs in no time. I am on a 30gb plan during peak hours, and I was wondering if there
is any way you can set this to download in off peak hours as I have 20gbs in off peak hours that I do not use,am
not a night owl. I have gone into Microsoft Store and turned of apps from automatically updating, and uninstalled
anything I wont be using like Acer bloatware, and candy crush soda, and a few other things. I have no other options
in my area for internet access, am in a black spot area, and the Satellite plans can become very expensive.

    :)

  2. Cortana is lazy, doesn't like to work:

    • I told her to finish all the **** my boss told me to do on the computer. Just like in Star Trek.
    • I fell over a few times being total in intoxicated from my short lunch.
    • Not anymore. I through the machine out the window.

  3. Cortana is lazy, doesn't like to work:

I told Cortana to finish all my work as I was going to the local pub for lunch. When I returned 5 hours later, the work was not done at all. What gives?

Might try looking into changing the Active Hours settings.

Thank you for replying CWGillley, I have tried the above settings, but it still downloads through the day time.

    Welcome to TenForums @ethel,

Active hours only changes the time it will reboot to finish installing updates, not when it downloads them. Pro has more options available through Group Policy editor, but for Home the most convenient way to prevent updates downloading when you don't want them to is to set a metered connection. You can then manually check for updates at a time of your choosing, with an option to permit the download on a metered connection. Or just turn off metering over night while you have an uncapped connection (remembering to turn it back on in the morning).

Set Ethernet Connection as Metered or Unmetered in Windows 10
Set Wireless Network as Metered or Non-Metered in Windows 10

Thank you Bree for replying, I will set the Ethernet connection as metered, and see how I go.

Thank you everyone for trying to help me. I have tried to set the Ethernet connection as metered, but when I click
on that connection nothing comes up about metered. Maybe this version of Windows 10 is not up to date enough yet.
I will leave it now until next month when my data begins again, and let it update then. I will stay with Windows 7
    until then.
