Yep, that would be your lock screen. If you like, you can use OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to disable it, and go straight to your sign in screen afterwards.

I will try the registry download and saved the registry 1st, a few levels up.
2 things of concern b4 i do that though;
One is, on the link u gave me it had someone say this: "The group policy edit has not worked for me for several builds. I think that ever since the Lock Screen went to XAML type the group policy edit is being ignored. "
whereby a reply to this was: "Have you tried running the gpupdate.exe /force command after modifying the policy?
Sometimes Windows doesn't react to GP changes automatically."
and to this I'll say I'm not sure what they mean.
and back to the registry think and my backup If things go wrong, normally once back to windows one just needs to double-click the backup reg file. BUT since I am doing something that would in theory change things b4 I even get to windows, what if i don't get there? Would there be a way of doing so, aia command prompt, safe start up or something or other?

 

I only have that happen on my insider build machine, But it never asks to rate the picture, I just hit a key as you do to punch in my pin.

On this, my main box, upgraded from 8.1, it goes right to the desktop, exactly how I want it *Biggrin on a local account.

I hate passwords on a non employee owned personal computer. There`s no need, they are useless.

 

There's nothing to worry about. It'll only disable the lock screen so that you will only see the sign in screen instead. *Smile

 

The registry fix worked. Thanks a mil Brink. I will keep my backup and see if per chance anything happens in the next few days but all seems well so far.
LMiller7: Your remark made me laugh and here's why. Ready? You wrote, "Going all the way back to XP. . . ."
All problems mentioned here relate to my laptop which originally had W8.1. But the PC lent to me here at the university has as it OS....drum roll.... are you ready? . . . . .Windows XP, with whopping internet speeds of averaging 2.7Mbps.

I too would like to just get rid of that sliding image (before you press enter go to where you type the password), for desktop it's just unnecessary.
