You’ll be soon able to unpin grouped apps from Windows 10 Start Menu

Microsoft’s next big update to Windows 10 is codenamed “19H1” and it’s supposed to come with several major changes. The most recent Windows 10 19H1 build comes with one small but useful change that the company announced in the release notes of Build 18272.

In Windows 10, you can customize Start menu. For example, there is a feature that allows you to group tiles on the Start Menu. It’s a neat feature and you can group as many tiles as you want and they can be named to whatever you like.

To group tiles on Start menu, you need to drag an app tile on top of the one that you want to group together. This feature is getting better with Windows 10 19H1 as Microsoft has added an option that would allow you to unpin the entire group. It means you can unpin all apps together if they are grouped but still, there is no way to select multiple items on the Start menu using CTRL + click.

Microsoft says that this feature is currently live in Windows 19H1 builds but it will only show up for approximately 50 percent of the insiders in the Fast ring but it should be enabled for more users soon.

“Something new we’re rolling out that I figured you guys would appreciate – basically if you right-click on a group name or tile folder in Start you’ll now get an option to unpin the whole thing. Makes it a lot faster to start fresh,” Microsoft’s Jen Gentlemen explains. “Currently this is available for 50% of Insiders on Build 18272 – we’ll let you know when it rolls out to the rest of the people on this build”.

  2. Microsoft Will Soon Bring Back The Start Menu In Windows 8.1

I'm picturing the typical Start menu, except with numerous side tree arrows for everything listed in it to accommodate their new app heavy menu trend. They're going to keep their sticky fingers in it somehow you just know.

I spent quite a bit of time updating my neighbor's W8 equipped laptop the other day just to finally install the lengthy 3.6GB 8.1 update on it to be able to get the boot to desktop option in the new taskbar Navigation tab. Then I was shocked that 8.1 would not let me install it without using a password login. So I remove the password login via the account settings, only to find you have to as well disable it in the power options for hibernate if you want to be completely free of it.

MS try and force FAR too many options on us for an OS that is more software compatible than any other.

I have also tried this command in Powershell -
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} But my problem was not solved.

I am showing a Video regarding this Issue.

Can't unpin excel jump list file from the start menu

The same jumplist shows wherever you right-click on Excel (or any other app that has a jumplist) be that on a tile in Start, pinned to the taskbar or in Start's 'all apps' list.

Right-click on any file name in the jumplist (like your ABC.xls) and you should see options to 'Pin to this list' and 'Remove from this list'. If the file is pinned to the list, you have to unpin it first before you can remove it from the list.

*Arrow Pin or Unpin Items on Jump Lists in Windows 10

If that isn't working for you, then it sounds like you'll need to reset the recent items that jumplists show. This will reset ALL jumplists, not just the Excel one, so only reset it if nothing else works.
