Windows 10: Game only works on new Windows 10 PC when I switch to Administrator account

I just came to a new PC and Windows 10. The game is Ingenious, a simple geometric puzzle game I've been playing for years. I got a new copy on CD anticipating that the license might not travel.


When the old Win 7 PC's files came over to the new PC, the game .exe loaded a setup screen and froze -- when options are clicked they light up but that's all. It is not responsive to clicks, or to slipping to another screen with Alt-Tab. The only way to get out of it is Ctrl-Alt-Del. In file manager right clicking on the .exe and choosing Run as Adminstrator does nothing, and the Troubleshoot Compatibility test leads to Ctrl-Alt-Del again.


Then I tried to load the new game disk, and nothing happened at all.


Meanwhile I found the original license code on my old PC and uncloaked the new PC's Administrator account via cmd prompt. When I ran the .exe as Administrator, it worked: The registration screen came up, accepted the code and registered the program. I can play it. But only if I log in as Administrator.

What's happening here? I'm a longtime Windows user with some chops but not a programmer, and I don't understand why the Administrator can do this and "I" can't. I slip into the game several times a day when I want the back of my mind to work on a problem. Switching users each time would be a huge pain, so I'm still running both computers so I can play it easily.


How can I get this PC to run the game for everyone as Win 7 does on the old PC?

Change Microsoft Account Details in Administrator Account


Hi Daryl, welcome to the Ten Forums.

It's quite easy in fact, simply switch the account in question first to a local account, then switch back to a Microsoft account, this time using your wife's MS account credentials.

Notice that before doing this you need to remove the new additional MS account on the PC, the one you created with her credentials. Windows allows only one user account for each email address, if the new account exists you cannot switch the original administrator account to an MS account using the same email address. Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account


Hello,
Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

New Local Account Not Working In Windows 10

This issue could have happened due to corrupted profile on your Windows 10. We suggest that you delete the non-working profile on your PC and try to register it again.

To delete your non-working account, we suggest that you follow these steps:

• Click on the *Start menu**. It's the Windows logo in the bottom left of your screen.
