How to Add or Remove Empty Folder context menu in Windows 10

The Empty folder context menu will instantly and permanently delete everything in a folder after a one time Y/N confirmation to prevent emptying the folder by mistake.

The Empty folder context menu allows you to select to Empty folder contents and subfolders (everything) or Empty folder contents but not subfolders.

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove Empty folder on the context menu of folders for all users in Windows 10.

While you must be signed in as an administrator to add or remove the Empty folder context menu, all users will be able to use it.

*note The Empty folder context menu will only be able to delete the contents of a folder that the user is allowed to in permissions.

Hi Ozzie, I am Rob, a volunteer and a 10 time and dual award MVP specializing in Windows troubleshooting and Bluescreen analysis.

Microsoft for some unknown reason removed the Recycle Bin from the Context Menu though you can add it back in.

    This should help:

I know this may be just a difference from your native language, but I'm not quite sure what you mean. Could you please explain it again more clearly?

If your folder is getting emptied by just double clicking on the folder to open it, then there's something else wrong since this context menu couldn't affect that.

As a test, download and merge the .reg files for the listed Directory and Folder items in OPTION TWO of the tutorial below to see if they may help. It will restore the default registry entries for these items. Afterwards, you can add "Empty Folder" back if you like.

    Dear Shawn,
I thank you and congratulate you for your publications.
Would it be possible to improve this feature as follows:
    1. Right-click
moving all files or directories of the folder into the Trash.
    2. Shift + Right click
    current function permanently deleted.
What do you think about that idea?
    Yours.

Hello Valéry, and welcome to Ten Forums. *Smile

I'll look into it. For now, you could open the folder, click/tap on "Select all" in the ribbon (Home tab), and click/tap on Delete to move all files/folders in the folder to the Recycle Bin.
