    win10 crashes when open zip-files

    hi!

windows 10 crashes with bluescreen on different machines within 30 seconds, when we double-click on zip-files to open it.

somtimes win10 crashes also when we try to zip files with right-click.

    has anyone the same problems?

    thanks for feedback!

    Bluescreen Crashes in Windows 10

There are a few things that I notice with these errors, they are nearly all hardware 0x124 errors which are difficult to troubleshoot because there is so little information.

Most of them occur when the Norton Security process is running so a first step would be to uninstall Norton and just use Windows Defender while we are troubleshooting.

There was one different BSOD error: 0x18 Reference by Pointer
    Probably caused by : BHDrvx64.sys ( BHDrvx64+114761 )

You need to update or rollback your Symantec Heuristics Driver. Maybe this is part of the Norton install so it may be removed anyway.

Check if there has been any improvement and if not then you will need to work through your hardware:

  5. It crashed several times with Norton security installed, and then I uninstalled it at it has not crashed since. Any idea why Norton would crash it? I don't find any information online about a Norton issue with this setup. I have had two different x299 motherboards and they both crashed how Norton was installed. I had a Gigabyte x299 gaming 9 and now a asus x299 prime deluxe and it still crashes with Norton installed. Have you heard anything about a issue with Norton Security?

  6. Also forgot to mention that my mouse pointer froze right before one of the bluescreens, is that what caused the crash with the pointer section?

No, the analysis pointed to the Symantec software for that one as well.

I can't say why Norton software is disrupting your system so badly - have a look on their forums to see if anyone else is reporting similar problems.

I have checked on the Norton forum and there doesn't seem to be anything similar to my problem. I may have to post on their forum and see what happens.

It does look like Norton was responsible - I'll see if I can find anything out about this.

Edit: After searching on Google it seems that there were several BSOD reports on the forums with Norton and W10 during 2016. I could not find one with the same error code as you but the history suggests that Norton and Symantec are struggling to keep up with the W10 updates.

I recommend that you use Windows Defender as your primary AV package for a while and wait and see if Norton come out with any new updates. It will be a relatively quick test to see if it works on your system.

  11. I got rid of Norton Security and now I'm almost 3 days without a crash or bluescreen. I contacted Norton support and they are looking at my crash dumps to see what might be causing it.

In addition to the Symantec drivers above that you have uninstalled please replace the following driver:
