Windows 10: Can't enter Microsoft Win 10 User account

My primary computer has long been set to avoid entering a password in starting Windows, but abruptly and unexpectedly did require the password (?). I entered what I believed was the correct PW but it was rejected. A PW hint did not seem applicable but was plausible. However, many tries at constructing a PW according to the hint were all rejected.

Alternatively there was provision for a PW reset if a PW reset disk was available. I did not have such a disk but produced one on my secondary computer. However, using it in the primary computer merely yields an error at the final execution. (Perhaps the identity of the producing computer is on the disk, making it incompatible for any other computer?)

Thus I'm basically unable to access my primary computer. I downloaded Win 10 from the web and have no "disk" to make a repair or retry.

I'd be quite grateful for assistance.

Cortana on Win 10 desktop continually asking to login to microsoft account

I figured it out, you can't have 2 local users with the same Microsoft account.

I created a new Microsoft account and the new local user profile was promoted to the Microsoft account.

everything now works

its a limitation in win 10, nice of Microsoft to tell us

I think Microsoft should dump the store and the Microsoft accounts from win 10 until they fix all the bugs, it making win 10 look bad

 

Administrator login failure Windows 10

Hello and thank you for your help. Was given laptop which is running Win 10 Home, version 10586. Added my Microsoft account and changed administrator to my account. When I try to log into my account I receive this error message: "The User Profile Service
service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded." When I sign into original owner Microsoft account and access 'Control Panel, User Accounts, Change account type.' receive prompt for my account password (since it's admin account). Nothing happens
after I enter the password. I can't access my account or anything requiring admin privilege nor change admin back to original account. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Gypsie, but that's too easy. I did it immediately. It took effect on my secondary computer but not the troubled primary one. Still hunting.

 

If you start up in safe mode you will be logged in as the built-in Administrator. You can then use this account to create a new local account and make that account an administrator.

Add Local Account or Microsoft Account in Windows 10
Change Account Type in Windows 10

Restart and log into this new account, you can then try resetting the password of your original account.

Reset Password of User Account in Windows 10

As you can't log in at present, your only way to start in safe mode is to first go to Advanced Startup. To do that from the sign in screen, click the power button bottom right. Hold down the Shift key and click Restart. Then follow Option One in this tutorial.

If you cannot sort out the original account, at least you can now log in as an administrator and create a new account for yourself. You could then copy your documents and file across to this account and use that from now on.

A password reset disk is only valid for the account and PC it was created by. It doesn't work for an account on another PC, even if the account has the same name.

 

I guess I should back up and ask for some info:

Stumps me as to why all of a sudden it demanding a password. Are you part of a domain? Is this a work or company PC?

Which Windows edition?

Is this an MS account? (highly doubt if you didn't need password) Is this a local account? An MS account you set to local?

Here's what I found. This one says that if you forget your password, there's no way to retrieve it without that PS disk made on that PC with that account.

I much appreciate the recent helpful suggestions you've offered. I find it quite commendable that knowledgeable people like you make the effort to help us unskilled tyros tangled in technology.

However, before receiving some of these suggestions I turned my computer over to my helpful pro repairer and I expect he will correct my problem and let me know how I stumbled into this situation. It was a shock when Windows asked for a password that I set long ago and haven't used, literally, for years. (I later have been more disciplined with my password archive but this one escaped me.)

So thanks to all. I've learned some new things that may become useful down the road.
