    Cleaning up W10 Taskbar

I have set up IE11 as my default browser, MSN as my home page and Outlooks as default email service. The Edge brower, MS mail icons remain on the task bar. Is it best to remover the unused Edge & MS Mail icons from the task bar? If in the future I find the need to reattach either back to the task bar would it be difficult?

Btw, I initially choose Gmail but found it is not synced with Outlook. Also, my goal is to run W!0 with the most efficient services in hopes they best work with W10.

Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    lp

    :)

  3. Taskbar Broken

After I received my copy of W10, the taskbar started to just not appear. I keep my taskbar on hide automatically but When I move the mouse to the bottom of the screen it should come up, but it doesn't. The only way to fix this is restarting my computer
but I work too much on it to have to restart it every 30 minutes to get my taskbar back.

Just change properties to combine if you are using Classic Shell or Start10. IE11 is going away, since Edge is taking its place. If you are using the Mail tile app, it will take up more space if you do not use Classic Shell or Start10.

No need to explain about Gmail and Outlook, unless there is a problem and that would be a separate topic on its own. Also services have nothing to do with want you want to do, since they are cosmetic and have no affect on how the OS runs.

Thank you. I want to use Edge but even after receiving instructions I find no way to attach a favorite for Outlook Mail nor any other mail for that manner. Can you please help?

Why do you want to use Outlook, better to use your ISP`s program or Yahoo or Gmail, anythng but Outlook.

You can pin or unpin anything you want to your taskbar, but IMO it`s best just to put what you use alot on the taskbar, and pin others you use alot but less frequently to the start menu.

You use something like outlook and you loose the drive or format the drive, bye bye mail, use your ISP`s server to store your mail and not your computer, they have redundancy, you don`t *Smile and you can view your email from any computer anywhere in the world.

  7. Hi, @lpatrick:

For the record, Re: IE11 -- It is the last version of IE, but it's not going away completely any time soon.
    According to MS:

So there is no need to feel compelled to use Edge, if you don't want to.*Smile

I do not personally use Edge, but here is a tutorial about adding favorites:

I think that they are talking about the website, not the program.

  10. Hi, again:

Yes, it is very easy to pin and unpin apps to & from the Win10 taskbar.
It's not all that different from Win7.

    Here is a tutorial:

It was meant for the Surface not a desktop. Firefox and Chrome are a lot more safer than the stuff that Microsoft dreams up. Even their Mail and Calendar App does not work when you try and sync with a @me.com account.

Rather obvious I am not on your expertise level.
How about an answer to this simple question "Should no longer needed icons pined to the task bar be unpinned, removed or deleted? If these applications are needed in the future how do I retrieve the icons for the task bar?" Please explain in simple terms that I can more readily understand.

    Thank you,

    Cleaning up W10 Taskbar

I agree. I went to Outlook mail because it works. Gmail is the so called best yet I cannot get it to sync. Id I could sync Gmail I may move to Firefox. Any suggestions?

Nothing expert about it. It is basic computing 101 stuff.

Outlook mail has been having problems with users getting locked out because they forget to set a additional email account for recovery in case they forget their password, same as putting in your cellphone number. Gmail interface may not be as pretty or glossy as Outlook.com is, which again is cosmetic and has nothing to do with how the service works.

I have my gmail set to forward to my @att.net account, same as my @me.com account for iCloud. I would choose Thunderbird over Outlook for the desktop if all that you are doing is sending and receiving email. If you are on the go, using the webmail interface is fine and dandy, but not as safe as having the email scanned for attachments that snuck through with malware in them, along with links that could point you to a website that is trying to Phish your info or cause you to catch a virus on your computer.

Going back to your original question, you are talking about cosmetic stuff that can be cleaned up if you use Classic Shell or Start10 to bring the Windows 10 desktop back to how the Windows 7 desktop All Programs worked. This is all basic 101 computing stuff.
