Windows 10: Cortana registry setting?

Windows 10 Pro. I had Cortana before, somehow it got corrupted.

 

What's up with Microsoft never designed a tool that can reset ONLY Cortana?

If I choose Keep personal files only, then it will remove all my other apps I have installed from the registry?

 

Try creating a new local account. Does Cortana work normally in this account? If so, go back to your normal account and try re-registering Cortana for that account. Option Two here:

If not (and particularly if you have any other built in apps that give problems) then try Option One from that tutorial.

 

I did all that before, but I will give it another try though.

In this article, at one point it says

Check the folders listed below. Determine if the All Application Packages group has the access indicated.
Users\<userName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER - Special Permissions (List folder / read data, Create Folders /Append Data)

Later on, below it says Repeat for c:\Users but grant the "All Application Packages" group Full Control.

OK, so is it the entire C:\Users\ folder or just C:\Users\<userName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER that I need to change ??

Does the whole C:\users\ folder and it's subdirectory need to give ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES permission?

 

Can you see all see from Appmanifest.xml does it fix/reinstall any Cortana registry settings?

An update -

I imported registry from another computer with good Cortana

This key and it's subkeys. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search]

Then I restarted my computer.

Upon the initial loading of Windows, a CORTANA icon appeared!

However, after Windows loading is done, the Cortana icon is again gone, replaced by search icon.

Hmmmm interesting?

 

I have gained more understanding, knowledge on what is going on with Cortana.

Here is what I did and observed.

I imported

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search from another computer that has Cortana fine.

And, at first it worked, the Cortana icon appeared after I restarted BUT I CAN'T click or open CORTANA.





Sometimes Cortana can be opened, but the registry will reset back to just search icon..






Then I restarted again, the Cortana icon is gone again replaced again with just the search icon.




I think this PROVES that a registry reset on ONLY Cortana entries would actually fix it, without a damn need for Clean Install to fix it.

The only problem is, I don't know how to effectively reset the Cortana registry manually, and nobody else does either, it seems that I found online.

Shame MS have NOT made have ANY Cortana repair tools. Microsoft really should make it if they want us users to use Cortana, otherwise, I am not going to be using it.

I AM NOT GOING TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL, EVER! NOT AN OPTION!!!!

I also noticed 1) Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search\Flighting Key

IN ANYWAY reset Cortana, and replace missing Cortana registry values.I want Microsoft PLEASE to take this Cortana registry issue more seriously, and come out with a tool to FIX it.

Yes tried Powershell. If you read the thread, that has been previously discussed.

But you have to understand, I don't think Powershell touches the registry at all. I believe it only replaces files. Clearly doesn't reset the faulty registry settings.

The problem is with the registry!

 

I purposely deleted Cortana, I have not had any issues, I'm running LTSB. I also did this in Pro.

The only thing I wish I could do is turn off these error messages about it.

But performance wise this has made my PC faster...

 

I do NOT and did NOT purposely want to get rid of Cortana, I actually WANT to have Cortana back!

But, I will not "Clean Install" to get it back.

It's now up to Microsoft to issue us a Cortana fix tool!

 

If you haven't tried then you can probably run "sfc /scannow" in admin command prompt. That may get it back.
