Windows 10: Create Reset Recovery Image in Windows 10

In this whitepaper for "/setosimage" command MSDN says: "This setting is not used in Windows 10."

But you use "/setosimage" command in tutorial and apparently it works. Am I missing something or what?

It apparently still works despite what the white paper suggests. The hardest part will be to get an official Windows 10 ISO file that uses Install.wim instead of Install.esd.

You can use the tutorial below to confirm the recovery image location to see if it has changed like below.

Shawn I know this is an old post (but updated in Apr) but I have used the ResetRecoveryImage on my last two Insider Builds and confirmed the location using reagentc /info. Apparently still works well. I have only one SSD drive on my laptop so I have the install.wim file stored on an external USB 3.0 SSD drive.

I used the command reagentc /setosimage /path "location\ResetRecoveryImage" /index 1 whilst troubleshooting an Adanced Starup menu problem but I don't want the reset recovery image anymore. How do I set a command using reagentc to remove it?

You could delete the ResetRecoveryImage folder to remove it, and have Windows use the default image instead.

 

Hi Shawn - I put the install.wim file into the new ResetRecoveryImage folder on an external drive as I believe was the case with Fisher Mann in post #66 above. I just wanted to verify - is using an external drive is acceptable?

Thank you for the fantastic tutorial, if you don't mind i have question about the /index option which specifies the index number of the recovery image to use from within a .wim file. You have used index number 1 but as you know install.wim image file may contain several different Windows 10 Edition e.g. Pro, Home, etc.. As you know we use following Dism command to found out the index number of Windows edition we want to use with Dism command, so how come you only use index number 1 what if there is more than one edition of Windows 10?
