Error 0x800706D9: I cannot update Apps

    Hello,

I have clean installed the latest Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit, build 14393.10

After the clean installation I have uninstalled the Apps I do not need by using commands in PowerShell, from a tutorial from this site. For a couple of newly added Apps I used CCleaner Pro to uninstall them. I have left the Store and the Calculator, only.

Now, when I check for updates in the Store, there is an update for Calculator but I keep getting this:

Error 0x800706D9: I cannot update Apps [IMG]

I use the Windows Firewall, and not a 3rd party firewall or antivirus, and it is running fine. I have also scanned my system with SFC and DISM and no integrity violations or corruption were found.

Are you getting this error? Can you update your Apps?
What can I do, besides a clean installation again?

    Thank you.

    :)

Error 0x800706D9: I cannot update Apps

Hi, app updates run ok post anniversary upgrade for me.
    See here:
Windows Update fail Windows 10 0x800706d9 | TenForums - YouTube

Similarly there's a discussion on the err. message here, alas with some unpleasant language.
Solved Windows Update error 0x800706d9 - Windows 10 Forums

It's almost not worth uninstalling the default apps - each major upgrade will replace them, as will an in-place upgrade repair install if run. The overhead isn't noticeable.

If I wanted to install an app I'd installed I'd prefer to rt click it on the start menu, and click uninstall, for example.

    Thank you for your reply.

I have clean installed the OS again, and this time I uninstalled all the unwanted Apps by right-clicking and selecting "Uninstall", and for those I could not uninstall this way, I used CCleaner Pro. It seems that now it works. I post the following screenshot, showing the remaining Apps updating properly this time.

Error 0x800706D9: I cannot update Apps [IMG]

I assume my mistake was that I have uninstalled the newly added "Store Purchase App". After leaving it installed, my Apps now update normally from the Store, or at least the seem to do so. I have also left "App Installer" just in case...

I am glad that in this new Anniversary Update my system keeps functioning (perfectly), the way it has been always doing.

    Thank you.

Good.. if you find the Store missing (as I did recently for no accountable reason along with Photos) you can reinstall it with a Powershell command.

    Also be aware of
    a. disk imaging - which you should use routinely so you can restore your PC to a previously working state relatively painlessly- also provides a complete backup. Macrium Reflect (free) + external disk + its boot medium
    b. in-place upgrade repair install (see Tutorial section).

These usually mean you don't have to clean install and reinstall all 3rd party programs and redo settings etc etc etc

Error 0x800706D9: I cannot update Apps

I've tried it, and also re-registering the Apps, but it doesn't work. Last question: do you happen to know which Service, if there's any, might affect the build-in Apps? Like preventing them from updating?

    Thank you.

PS: the only build-in Application I have kept is the Calculator. If it will continue giving me problems, like refusing to update, I will just install Windows 7 calculator, and be done with it.

    Thanks Brink *Smile

It is too much to do a Repair install just because the Calculator fails to update. I might just install Win 7 calculator if the problem insists. And, by the way, in my system (see System Specs), I need 15 - 18 minutes to clean-install the OS and all the required drivers. So, it's not a big deal for me. It would be nice to know the cause of this, but it's OK. No problem.

Error 0x800706D9: I cannot update Apps

I have finally discovered the cause of this error in my system. I had disabled the Storage service and this caused my (remaining) Applications to not update through the Store. As soon as I restored the Storage service at its default state everything is working perfectly again!

    Thank you *Smile

  15. Hi,
I only registered to say BIG THANK YOU. I don't know why Storage service was completely disabled on my PC, but I've seen also other services that weren't properly configured after Windows 10 RS1 installation. The problem with Storage service caused, that I couldn't even install any app from Windows Storage - upon clicking "Install" on any application, Windows Store app was just exiting / crashing with no error - just like window was closed. I tried all those wsstore reset command, PowerShell commands, clearing Store cache as well as time sync fixes and of course none has helped. But one app was still on the list of apps to be downloaded, after my previous Windows 10 installation - Asphalt 8. And when I tried to "redownload" it it was always giving me 0x800706D9 error. And thanks to this I have found your solution *Smile . Great job on troubleshooting and digging in this overbloated sh** named "Windows 10".

I can only add that registering here was a little hassle, as for the first time my registration form was declined with reason that I haven't clicked ReCaptha (I am 101% sure I clicked it) and when I clicked it again and filled my email again it turned out that this time my "I agree to forum rules" checkbox was automatically cleared (why? what is the benefit for this?) and whole my filled form was just trashed and I had to start from scratch, filling all the details again. Great job :/
