Did you make any changes to the computer name, or email address or password of the MS account online at Microsoft before this happens?

 

Nope, no changes to anything
I've done a lot of IT work in the past and so I try to figure it out first

MS doesn't even have an answer when I've asked them

 

I thought it might be just a MS Surface problem, but then others were having the problem that had other computers. My wife's HP doesn't have the same problem with her account

 

I must admit that it's odd for it to do that even after a clean install. The fun part is trying to find out what could be causing it.

 

It was a completely brand new install, not just a recovery

 

Does this by chance happen after security updates have been installed in Windows Update?


You could try this below to see if it may toggle it to stop. I don't have high hopes though since this has happened to you after a clean install, but it's worth a try.

Switch your MS account to a local account, then switch it back to a MS account.

I believe it happened after the clean install and before I performed any updates
Now, I'm not sure if I've switched to local and then back

I will have to try that later...Maybe tonight

When it's a problem that effects your over all experience and stops you from being productive or enjoying leisurely activity on my computer — It gets real old

I'd love to figure this out... Then saving others from having to deal with it this long

 

I hear you, but I must admit that I'm not sure what else to suggest either since it seems that you pretty much tried all the usual solutions including a clean install.

If you have any 3rd party AV, security, or cleaning utility type programs installed, then you might try a clean install without them installed in case they may be a cause to see if you still get this message.

 

Here's something to throw in here...
For awhile, I would have input my credentials. Then when I went to my MS account online it showed I had several computers added to my account. Sometimes it was just several listings for the same Surface I have. Sometimes showing the exact same SN and sometimes no SN. It was like adding a new computer. This would happen without account changes, nor hardware changes. I'm using no 3rd party virus or cleaning products.

Microsoft couldn't explain why it was doing it either. Then one day it stopped adding more systems every time I verified my credentials.

It did make things difficult in that you can only have so many systems connected to your account.

Now I still haven't discovered what made that stop.

 

Well, I'm just learning how to work my way around the problem. Which is kinda interesting.
Now, if I can somehow get OSX on my Surface

- No, I'm not really planning to do that. But that would be interesting to do



This has surely left a bad taste in my mouth for Windows 10 and MS. (Adding this to my existing frustration with them forcing updates, etc)

Oh well...Life goes on

 

Hopefully, it'll get sorted for you in the next build release. This certainly isn't normal behavior.

I do appreciate your thoughts and willingness to help though.

 

I tried the "fix" various times, but it keep to asks for credentials every 2-3 days.
Win 10 really looks like the new Vista to me.
I regret every day for having upgraded my beautiful and 100% working Windows Seven to play Gears of War and Quantum Break.
