Windows 10: How to get rid of preview windows?

When you click on, say, Firefox, in the start bar it will show you a preview of the window that you have minimized. Is there a way to get it to just show the title of the window, as WinXP would have done?

Try "NumThumbnails". Set it to 1 (as 0 doesn't have any effect in Windows 10) so that if you open more than 1 instance of the
program, it will list/stack the item when you hover over the taskbar icon, instead of showing the thumbnail image.

Glad that helped. I set NumThumbnails to 1 and played with different "MinThumbSizePx" values.. still the title text is truncated. Let's me know if you have any success with that.

As a workaround to effectively disable taskbar thumbnail previews, you can set the ExtendedUIHoverTime DWORD to a very long delay time (ex: 10000 milliseconds) using the tutorial below.

This is a great program!

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have the option to do what I'm looking for. I've found a way to disable thumbnails whne I'm hovering over an item on the start menu bar, but when I click on firefox (I have multiple windows open) it still shows me thumbnails instead of showing a list like XP would and there doesn't appear to be an option to change that.

Now, I don't have "NumTumbnails," and the NOTE says I should go to New->DWORD (32-bit) Value. If I have 64-bit Windows do I go New->QWORD (64-bit) Value?

 

Nope. You would want create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it NumThumbnails.
