  1. IE 11 not loading, how can I reinstall it?

I need to have IE11 available for some specific hardware device control software (which does not work in Chrome, Firefox, etc; rubbish I know, but I'm stuck with it). However even thought the .exe file was still present after I upgraded to Win10, it wouldn't load, nothing happens when I try to run it. I removed IE via the Win10 Control Panel with the idea of reinstalling it, but the regular IE11 standalone installer downloaded from the Microsoft website says it can't install as IE is already present. The webpage auto-installer says it can only install on a Windows machine. Any thoughts on how I can force a reinstall?

  4. IE 11 not loading, how can I reinstall it?

Not sure if it will work

Right click on start menu and go to programs and features
click on Turn Windows features on or off

from the list that comes up try selecting IE, or toggle it off and on to see if it works

  5. I already did that, which went ahead and removed IE and then asked for a PC restart to complete the uninstall. However when I then tried to manually re-install it, the installer program said it was already present.

If I use the "Turn Windows Features On or Off" option again to re-enable it, IE seems to be reinstalled (with another restart requested to complete the task) but I'm back to square one: trying to launch IE (using either the 32-bit or 64-bit executables) seems to start the process (and it appears briefly in Task Manager) and then it exits without doing anything else.

  6. Any further ideas on why IE is shutting itself down like this? I just checked in Safe Mode and it works there by the way, so I'm going to disable all the addons/etc and see if that helps.

Personally, I would do a System Restore to a point before your attempts to uninstall/alter IE and when it launched correctly, and then "let it be."

Just upin it from the taskbar if you do not want to see it. *Smile

  8. IE 11 not loading, how can I reinstall it?

IE 11 hasn't worked since the Win10 upgrade. And while restoring back to Win7 would indeed fix the problem, that's a bit of a drastic solution I think.

I just want to fix whatever is causing IE to fail under Win10 so I can use it. Disabling all the IE addons hasn't fixed the problem (it still works OK in Safe Mode, but not in normal daily operation).

  10. How would restoring Win10 help when IE 11 did not work right from the initial upgrade? Or are you saying to force a Clean Install of Win10, but that seems a bit overkill when so far it's only IE that's having problems.

Google "System Restore" and read the tutorial.

It is not a clean install. It refreshes your system including the registry to correct errors.

Also, try to reset IE. Internet Options/Advanced/Reset. And run sfc/scannow. Check the tutorials in this forum and the Win8 forum for other ideas.

  12. I've already tried resetting IE options to defaults, which didn't help. Running an sfc scan at the moment, but given that IE runs OK in Safe Mode I'm guessing that the program files themselves are OK. No harm in checking though.

I will try a system restore as a last resort (I'm fully aware of what it does). As I said before, this problem has been present since the moment I upgraded to Win10, so I'm not sure how it's going to find a Win10 restore point that could help. I've got image backups of the current setup anyway, and the old Win7 setup, so I can rollback to whichever version I need if it goes wrong.

IE 11 not loading, how can I reinstall it?

I'm having the same issue and the same error codes in the Event Log. Were you able to find a solution?

    Thanks!

  14. Nope, still no solution as yet. I think I'll post the full XML error message log, so if you could do the same maybe there might be something in common which the experts here might notice?

    Do you use EMET?

It is incompatible with IE11 unless you turn off EAF and results in the exact same error.

Other than that you could try to un-install and re-install IE11 in Windows Features
