    Intel problem?

Windows 10 machine in church office (intel chip) had persistent problems with latest update failing. Then automatically restored previous version of windows. Today the restore is failing putting up message "no signal". There is internet connectivity as internet can be accessed on mobile phone via the church connection. Cannot get into safe mode. Any ideas welcome

    :)

  2. XCOPY ERROR: File creation error - A required privilege is not held by the client

I'm trying to use xcopy to backup changed files from my computer to another computer in the same network. I'm trying to do this by mounting the destination folder and try to perform the xcopy:

    net use F: \\computer_name\Backup /user:user_name p@ssw0rd /persistent:no

    xcopy E:\Copy F: /c /d /e /h /i /k /q /r /s /x /y

The mount is successful. But I get the following error despite having the permission and ownership of the destination folder.

File creation error - A required privilege is not held by the client.

Unable to create directory - F:\

    0 File(s) copied.

P.S : I tried by creating two folders locally in my computer and tested. It was successful. But when I'm trying to use it another computer it faces this issue.

  3. N73 or N73 music edition??

    Dear All,

As I usually to curious about investigation and evaluation of worth with Quality, I found the difference quality in N73 Music Edition and belive me that the stereo sound quality even on the loudspeaker is really very nice and loud on even preset equalisers
and I thought that my 6233 is really loud in sound but when I heard the music edition of N73 it has no match in sound.

Pictures with Auto Focus are really excellent. If you keep lower resolution of the picture while capturing the images, you'll find the best quality pics this is true for all digital cameras e.g. if its of 7.2 mega pixel and you are taking pics on 3 mega pixel
you find the result superb but if you try for 6 or 7.2 resolution you'll find the same camera with the average result.

Rest of Pros is that its simply symbian.

What lacks in it is flash LED only works with pictures.

N73 Music edition should be your ultimate choice.

    Intel problem?

Hi, sorry to hear of your problems.
    1. Please complete the system specs (see mine for comparison). If unsure how to do that, there is a tutorial in the Tutorial section.
    2. What is the Windows build? (Windows key + R, winver).
    3. Is it Home or Pro?

Please do the following basic checks:
    1. Check your disk. Download, install and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) (you can download it on a different PC).
Post a screenshot of its GUI.
To post a screenshot please use the icon to the left of the video icon above your post.
    2. If ok, check the file system. From an admin command prompt run
    chkdsk c: /scan
    and post the result.
    3. If ok, from an admin command prompt please run
    SFC /SCANNOW
    and post the result.

    4. Please post a screenshot of the partitions using Minitool Partition Wizard (which you can again download on another PC).

Once the above is done, we can move on.

How are you trying to access Safe Mode? Please see:
Boot into Safe Mode on Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials
(Note F8 no longer works in Win 10)
Please describe what you see step by step with screenshots or photos if it still fails.

Comment: if the current OS is significantly damaged, it will be necessary to repair it before upgrading. If you cannot get to safe mode, and the disk is ok, I would recommend an in-place upgrade repair install, which keeps all programs and data and most settings, and which will require an iso of the same build as is installed- which we don't yet know (see above).

In preparation for any next upgrade attempt, please download a suitable Win 10 iso file for the PC.
If you have this, you can upgrade even with no internet, and also save downloading Win 10 each time if upgading fails. You can also create a useful bootable disk from the iso with some basic repair features.

    Please read through the following:

    Trying again- preparation.
Upgrade to Windows 10 Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials
Note the guidance in the yellow section and Here's How

    - disconnect any unnecessary peripherals
    - disable or uninstall any 3rd party security software (this isn't always necessary, but some is broken by an upgrade, and may cause problems).
    - try upgrading after a clean boot
    - check you've at least 20Gb free on C: - more than your Windows folder
    - UEFI firmware settings.
    - make sure your BIOS is up to date

    What went wrong?
Then see this where many error numbers and messages are listed:

Thank you for that. Apologies for delays in reply. I have to go down to the church office to try anything and then come home to reply to you. Nothing seems to apply in that all that I have access to on the screen is a black screen which loops between "restoring previous version" then shows "no signal" and continues to loop. So I have no access to Windows in any way. Tried to get to safe mode via F8 (which I see no longer applies to Windows 10), Windows + R, holding down Shift as it powers up etc. Nothing has any effect. So downloading test files won't run in this state as far as I can see. Downloading a windows ISO without having the system spec seems risky to me. Does s give you a clearer idea of where I am?

The simplest approach now would be to clean install. Do you have full backups of any data?

At this point it should still be possible to retrieve the data quite easily.

Note- we continually urge users to use disk imaging routinely, so that they can restore their PC to a previous working state relatively quickly and with no or minimal technical assistance.

E.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + external storage for disk image sets.
(Updating an image takes e.g. 9-12 mins from SSD over USB3).

Useful even if your disk fails- just need a new disk.

There is separate hard disk which does continuous back up but in the current state I cannot access it from the desktop. Unfortunately it was originally a system 8.1 for which we have a repair disk, but Microsoft updated it to 10 without the secretary doing anything and they did not create a windows 10 repair disk. I think we are in trouble. I suspect it is all because of the failures of the updates to cope with the Intel chip faulty design (but I do not know)

    Intel problem?

    ??
If you're referring to Meltdown and Spectre, that's not relevant here. That flaw in the design only offers a potential exploit and has nothing whatsoever to do with routine operation.

Windows 10 iso's are freely downloadable. A clean install should automatically activate.

If you have the licenses for any programs installed that need them, and data is backed up, then I recommend a clean install- whihc will need you to download a Win 10 iso.

You need to know what the base language was and if it was single language or multi-language (i.e. display language could be changed by downloading language packs), and if it is 32 bits or 64 bits.

Do you know the backup program or method used, and is there any issue with encryption?

The backup drive is WD software, My Passport is the software app on the machine. No encryption problem as far as I know. I will look into the clean install procedure (which may take me a bit of time). There is a local expert I may call on. We should have licences for the installed software. Thanks for your help

Check your disk anyway. No point in installing Windows on it if there's a problem.
    You could
    a. Install Windows, then use Hard Disk Sentinel (trial)
    or
    b. Download and use Kyhi's boot disk (with lots of tools) from the top of the Software and Apps section here and boot your PC from that and use the tools on that (e.g. HD Tune).

Clean Install Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials
Download Windows 10 ISO File Installation Upgrade Tutorials
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials
(or you could use a DVD if your PC has a DVD drive).

    Intel problem?

If I was in your place, I would take the church computer home so I could work on it where there is an internet connection available. Bit of a pain but better than running back and forth between your home and the church.

If you power off the church computer 3 times or so it should go into it's automatic repair mode. From there you could be able to get to the Advanced Options menu where you can try doing a System Restore.
