Windows 10: Is windows 10 latest big update included in latest media creation tool

Hi folks,


When windows 10 was first released I downloaded it and burned to DVD using the media creation tool from Microsoft.


As windows 10 has now had a major update, and I want to create a DVD with that update on it, without having to reinstall it later, as I have other partitions on my computer to update to 10 as well.


So my query is, does anyone know if I was to download windows 10 32 bit from Microsoft again (using the media creation tool from Microsoft) will it include the latest major update to 10?

What build version of Windows 10 is used when the media creation tool is used to make an installation medium?

This includes security (and other) patches and the cummulative updates when these are released?

When i create a new installation medium now using the Media creation tool wich Windows 10 version do i get then? Will it be the latest version including the aniversary update?

 

Microsoft has made available a download able iso for win 10 1511. If you don't see download link on win pc then try on some other device.. like an android phone or tablet. That's how I got it downloaded and had clean installed. Hope this helps.

Microsoft has pulled Windows 10 1511 (build 10586). The link you posted will now download Windows 10 build 10240. The Tech Bench links also get build 10240 now and there hasn't been an update to build 10586 offered on Windows Update for a few days now.

If you upgrade from the 'Get Windows 10" icon in the taskbar of a non-Windows 10 PC, then it will download and install Threshold 2.

I don't know whether downloading it using 'Microsoft TechBench' from Option 1 at this tutorial downloads Threshold 2 or not, as I haven't tired it.

However, if you download the ISO using the Media Creation Tool from Option 2, then no it isn't. The version it installs is Version 10.0 (Build 10240), which isn't Threshold 2 (Microsoft really need to say what version it is that we're about to download before actually downloading it).

On top of that, if you install it from that Media Creation Tool ISO (Build 10240), you can't just download and install Threshold 2 afterwards either because according to Microsoft:

Some people are saying that if you clean the 'Previous Windows Installation' using the Windows Disk Clean-up tool, it should then download Threshold 2, but it doesn't. Which ties in with what the above poster said about Windows 10 1511 (build 10586) being pulled.

So in conclusion, I'm really not sure Microsoft have a clue what they're doing now-a-days.

 

Microsoft has pulled the build 10586 update. It is no longer available through normal downloads.

 

I just did a TechBench download. The files for x64 English are all dated July 10, 2015 on this morning's TechBench download.

Thanks a lot folks for replies, as in the reply above in bold, if I download the windows 10 update from the "get win 10 "icon on taskbar, then if I understand it correctly from the above replies then I do get the latest November update known as Threshold 2?

But If I install 10 using the media creation tool burned to DVD then I don't get the Threshold 2 update and will have to install it later through windows update?

Hope I have got that right?

You have it exactly right.

 

When I posted that, it was before anyone really knew what was going on and was based purely on my experience at the time. I.E. When I used the 'Get Windows 10' taskbar icon to upgrade one machine, it installed Threshold 2 perfectly OK. When I then used an ISO created from Media Creation Tool to install Windows 10 on a different machine, it wasn't Threshold 2, but the old 10240 version (and with no way to upgrade it to 10586).

Then it became widely accepted Microsoft had removed Threshold 2 from all sources, so I'm not sure whether that includes people upgrading from the 'Get Windows 10' icon as well now, or not, as it may have changed around Saturday.

I would hold off until tomorrow to see what Microsoft have to say after the weekend has ended.

 

Windows Update continues to deliver the Fall Update. Only the download sites deliver 10240.

You can make an .iso file yourself from the files on your computer that is already upgraded to Threshold 2. TenForums has a tutorial for this under the Tutorials forum:

Then you can create a dvd by right clicking on the .iso file and burning to disk. Use that to upgrade the remaining computers. Explore the tutorials when you need to do something. There are an amazing number of tutorials available.

 

Or download the build 10586 ISO from Microsoft. donegaljoe shows Windows 7 32 bit so the 32 bit build 10586 ISO from Microsoft would be:

EDIT: Ooops, just noticed that gets an ESD file. Hold on - going to see if it will convert to ISO.
