Windows 10: Microsoft Edge: How to disable annoying Nag Screen?

I think it's happening more with users who upgraded. I don't think I've seen any having this issue if they preformed a clean install.

 

Hopefully I can let you know in a couple of days - just waiting for my last couple of components on a new build and then will be performing a clean install.

 

First you will need to see a previous version installed an upgraded over before planning any clean install on a new build or any other machine! Otherwise you'll be waiting an eternity to see it activate and it won't simply because there won't be any record of it on the MS activation servers. They may be doing away with product keys but not hardware profiles anytime soon!

As for a second 7 Pro case here I had put a clean install on that when shrinking down the 7 primary for the second 10 would go onto and didn't expect to see 7 activated but wasn't ready to upgrade over the 7 install there until a day ago where upon finding the 10 upgrade activated the nag appeared until selecting Waterfox(64bit offspring of FF) was made the default browser in the List of items to be seen made default you have to go over before all that is taken care of.

As far as the clean install upon rebooting into that once I found the upgrade was activated during the install there I went in and found the clean install put on a day earlier was activated as well. But it still took the upgrade on that build to see it happen.

 

I cannot use my existing, activated, Windows 10 key (upgraded from Windows 7) on a new build?

 

The activation process allows you to perform any number of clean installs on the machine where 10 was seen as the upgrade over one of the previous versions. The activation server records the hardware profile snapshop taken by tthe previous version as well as the upgrade's data and keeps that for any future clean installs of 10 on the exact same machine only just as if you had seen a single user product key entered the 10 installer created a brand new key you never see except for the last four digits if the install or upgrade doesn't immediately activate itself automatically. I saw that when performing an upgrade to repair type install over the first upgrade over a fresh install of 7 that turned out to be "Buggy"!

For the new custom case you have there you will now need to toss a fast installation for one of the previous versions of Windows you have been running in order to see that upgraded to 10 on the new build so that the activation server(s) I should say will make a record of that machine's own profile. I think you will want to read the news article about this seen at ZDNet and postted in the news section or go read up on the new method for activation MS is now using with 10 to get familiar with how things work. The article there also goes into a new strategy MS is deploying to fend off piracy as well as simplify how things are going to be done from now on as far as how you see Windows activated. It also insures that you are running the genuine thing as well in case you should buy a used desktop, laptop, etc. and need to transfer ownership over to you.

 

What mail app are you using?

Get an MS account! With a Live Hotmail account at outlook.com you simply sign into the admin account with that and things seem to fall into place much easier. You still have the option available to log in with or without password using the Local account at any time. That will get the Mail app running as well until you download Windows Essentials 2012 or later to see the Windows Live Mail option brought back. DO NOT however check the Live Messenger box if you elect to go that route since the Windows Live Messenger is no more! Skype is the new option MS is using since WLM was dropped.

 

I like Outlook 2010 so will stick with it.

 

Not any problem here! *Wink I went for the Windows Essentials mainly to get the Windows Live Mail back on here. The old custom web setup for WLM will no longer work and with several accounts I had need to import them into a familiar mail app that allows for multiple accounts including non MS email providers.

 

Under URL:mailto protocol, the present setting is Microsoft Office Outlook. The other options are Chrome and Mail. There is no option for IE. BTW, I use Outlook 2007.

IE is no longer as far as the default browser goes while it has to be re-enabled separately. Edge took it's place in Windows 10! Windows 10 also comes with a brand new Mail app as well as replacing the Windows Photo Viewer with "Photos" which can still be restored. For a separate mail app you may want to consider the Windows Live Essential 2012 for use on 10 which also does quite well in replacing the old Windows Live Mail option. Windows Essentials - Microsoft Windows


The Windows Essentials option there is mostly for those who have turned away from Edge entirely and use a substitute browser.

I've got the same problem, upgrade from Windows 7, Outlook 2010.

On one of my VMs I upgraded to Outlook 2016 and it stopped happening, so it's got to be some sort of issue with Outlook 2007/2010.

Not really that keen on upgrading everything to Outlook 2016 just to solve this.
