I see some people are having problems with Microsoft Paint. I have a BIG problem!!!

I am not computer savvy. I know just enough to be dangerous. Sometimes if I poke around I can find a solution to a problem.

First, I didn't know I had Paint. Supposedly it comes with Windows 10.

A couple of days ago I went to my pictures folder. A double clicked on a picture to enlarge it. I got a box which said, "You'll need a new app to open this ms-paint link." It also gave me two choices, "Always use this app," and "Look for an app in the Microsoft store." I clicked on "Look for an app," and I got another box which said, "You'll need a new app to open this ms-windows-store link."' It's a vicious circle!

Also, I cannot get to my start menu. I have to hold the "windows" key and the letter "r" to get the start menu. There's probably other things I can't do, too, but I haven't found them yet.

    :)

  2. Microsoft signals end of Paint program

Microsoft has confirmed that it will continue to offer its graphics program Paint.

In a recent update, it had listed Paint as a feature that would be either removed or no longer developed.

Paint, renowned for its simplicity, has been part of the Windows operating system since its launch in 1985.

Microsoft suggested it would not remain on Windows 10 by default but did say it would be available for free on the Windows Store.

Install or Uninstall Microsoft Paint in Optional Features

How to Install or Uninstall Microsoft Paint (mspaint) in Windows 10

Microsoft Paint (formerly Paintbrush) is a simple raster graphics editor that has been included with all versions of Microsoft Windows. The program opens and saves files in Windows bitmap (BMP), JPEG, GIF, PNG, and single-page TIFF formats. The program can be in color mode or two-color black-and-white, but there is no grayscale mode.

In July 2017, Microsoft added Paint to the list of deprecated Windows features and announced that it would become a free standalone application in Microsoft Store, and also included a warning in the Paint application that it eventually won't be installed by default. However, Paint continued to be included with Windows 10 in later builds, and eventually an update removed the deprecation warning from the app.

Starting with Windows 10 build 18980, Microsoft converted MS Paint into an Option Feature for you to uninstall or reinstall to save disk space if needed.

This tutorial will show you how to install or uninstall the classic Microsoft Paint (mspaint) app for all users in Windows 10.

While you can uninstall Microsoft Paint if wanted, it currently will fail to reinstall afterwards.

Until this is fixed in a future build of Windows 10, you can do a repair install of Windows 10 to restore Microsoft Paint.
