How to Roll Back a Device Driver to a Previous Version in Windows 10


Information A newer version of a device driver often adds functionality and fixes problems that were discovered in earlier versions. If the device fails or has issues after updating the driver, you can roll back to the previously installed driver until there's another new driver version available later to install.

This tutorial will show you how to roll back a device driver to a previous version in Windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to roll back a driver.



Note If rolling back the driver doesn't resolve the issues you're having with your device, visit the manufacturer's website to contact and report the issue to them to help make them aware of it.

Here's How:

1. Open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc).

2. Double click/tap on the device you want to roll back the driver for to open its properties page. (see screenshot below)


Note You can also right click or press and hold on the device, and click/tap on Properties.





3. Click/tap on the Driver tab, and click/tap on the Roll Back Driver button. (see screenshot below)


Note The Roll Back Driver button is only available (not grayed out) if a previous version of the driver was installed. If the current driver for the device is the only one that was ever installed on this computer, then the Roll Back Driver button is not enabled (grayed out).





4. In the Driver Package rollback dialog box, select why you are rolling back, and click/tap on Yes to confirm. (see screenshot below)



5. When the driver has finished rolling back to a previous version, click/tap on Close. (see screenshot below)


Note Rolling back a driver may take a few minutes to complete. With some devices, you might be prompted to restart the computer to complete rolling back the driver.

Roll Back To Windows 10 version 1609 - Previous Version

Dear Community,

Two weeks ago my Windows 10 OS updated to Win 10 version 1709. There are many bugs in this version and it degraded my graphics with the latest graphics driver. I even rolled back the driver to my previous version, it still does not work properly.

Can anyone please provide instructions to roll back to my previous version of Win 10 OS? I cannot find a roll back option in Settings.
