    Which updates got through? You should see a list in Event viewer, System log: Source - WindowsUpdateClient, EventID - 19.

    Network data usage is shown for both a metered or unmetered connection.

    Sometimes it may take 24 hours for it to start showing data usage for a used network connection.

    If you do have an Ethernet connection on the PC and it's been over 24 hours since first used, then you might see if resetting the data usage may help.

    Ok, tried as @Brink said, even reset data usage and still didn't work.
    If only I could get a Mac instead of it....

    In the Creators Update there is now a setting for this in Settings > Network & internet > Ethernet - then click on Local Area Connection.

    On my 1703, Option 1 has no effect on DWORD in Registry Editor. The value remains 1 (non-metered).

    It is shown as 'Unidentified network' under Ethernet at my end, although I can actually access the Internet.

    This thread is now so long that it is possible to get mixed up between posts so I might be telling you what you already know.

    If
    "Option 1 has no effect on DWORD in Registry Editor. The value remains 1 (non-metered)."
    refers to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\DefaultMediaCost
    then please note that that key shows the default behaviour not the actual setting for an individual connection.

    My computer was restarted for the following settings to take effect.

    Yesterday, 'Set as metered connection' was on, and the DWORDs of both Default and Ethernet were 1. Windows Update automatically checked for updates as usual.
    Today, 'Set as metered connection' is off, and the DWORDs of Default and Ethernet are 2 and 1 respectively. Windows Update has not checked for updates.
