Windows 10: User Profile Failed the Login and can't access safe mode, HELP!

Hello I could really use some help. I am running Windows 10 onmy HP Pavillion. I upgraded from Windows 7 around a month ago. Recently I was running a disk battery calibration check and after I restarted from that I get the message when I login that the "User Profile Failed the Logon. User Profile Cannot Be Loaded". From everything I have seen online it sounds the best method is to login under safe mode as an admin and either create a new user profile or repair the current one. Now the problem is when I go to advanced startup options and select safe mode, it starts up but then asks me to login using one of my two accounts. Neither is the administrator as this doesn't show up for me. The current account that I am getting error obviously won't work under safe mode and the other account I don't remember the password. I inserted a travel/jump drive to try and change the PW on this but it wouldn't work. So basically I have no way of getting to start it up as an administrator. The local PC place said WIndows 10 has had known issues with this. However I had this problem happen with Windows 7 too so I am not sure. I have no idea what to do now. Can anyone help me out?

Unable to Load Profile Fix - Led to bigger problems

UPDATE-I changed my microsoft account password and attempted to use that to login to safe mode. The computer accepts it, but gives me the same The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded. error. So I can't even login
to safe mode. Hope someone can respond with an idea before I decide that a sledge hammer is the best solution...or maybe a 12 gauge

 

Windows 10 Pro login

I am having problem with my Windows 10 Pro laptop. Whenever I login with my ID it says "The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded."

And when start the computer in safe mode it shows error message "Unkown hard error". And windows start button or search is also not working in Safe mode. Please help.

Ok maybe I'm ignorant, but how do I do any of these first steps? WIndows 10 installation USB? Recovery drive? How do I get to these? I can open command prompt but it is not under "administrator." Does this matter?

 

OK, I was able to download Windows 10 on my jump drive. I started it up with command prompt. WHen I go to #5 under Option 4, I am not seeing a "SAM" folder on my jump drive. WHat should I be looking for on my jump drive to open? QUOTE=Brink;447061]Hello Jeff, and welcome to Ten Forums. *Smile

You may not be using the correct drive letter at boot for the Windows drive to see the SAM folder. If you are seeing the Windows\System32\config path, then that should be the correct drive letter.

 

So let me start from the beginning after downloading file. Upon startup, I hit escape and had the following options:
F1 System Information
F2 System Diagnostics
F9 Boot Device Options
F10 BIOS Setup
F11 System Recovery

I chose F9, boot device options. Then I chose my USB flash drive (which I saved the Windows 10 installation on). I choose "Repair your Computer." Then, Troubleshoot, Advanced Options, Command Prompt. That opens to:
X:\Sources. I then type regedit, do the HKEY LOCAL MACHINE, Load Hive and go to select my file. I assume it should be the USB correct? The Windows\System32\Config shows up on the X folder but not on mine.

I attached a picture of this of what I am seeing in the prompt box. What am I messing up? Would it be better if I don't do the Repair but just install normally?

 

Open each drive letter in the registry until you see the Windows folder like in the tutorial. It should be there.

From your screenshot, it looks like it would be SYSTEM (C: ).

 

The only one with the Windows\System32\Config and SAM file is the X drive folder that also shows in command prompt. When I select the SAM file and enter the REM_SAM, it says "Cannot Load X:\Windows\System32\config\SAM: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."

 

Did you open a command prompt at boot using OPTION ONE below?

Yep,
I started at boot with my USB flash drive where I downloaded Windows to. (See picture). Then I proceeded to all of the steps above including doing command prompt (picture I sent previously). Should I not be booting with my USB?

 

In that case, you might see if doing a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before this happened may be able to sort it for you.
