Windows 10’s feature update hits MSDN, inches closer to launch

Following a one year period of beta testing with a group of testers, Microsoft is getting ready to release Windows 10 May 2020 Update, the next big version of the desktop operating system. It was already known that the update will be released in the next few weeks, but now there is an extra reason to believe that the launch is imminent.

Microsoft typically seeds the final versions of Windows 10 major updates to users in the following order: Release Preview Ring > OEMs/PC manufacturer > Developers (MSDN subscribers) > mainstream users. The update is now rolling out to developers with Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) subscription.

This is the last milestone in the preparation of Windows 10’s May 2020 Update. The developers with MSDN subscription can now download the ISO files and test the feature update on their machines. For these developers, both the consumer and business versions of the May 2020 Update (version 2004) are available.

It’s worth pointing out that MSDN download for May 2020 Update doesn’t have the ARM64 version yet.

The arrival of the May 2020 Update for MSDN users suggest public non-beta release could be coming later this month, most likely between May 26 and 28. Like we’ve noted before in our older articles, Windows 10 version 2004 is a huge release and it will be delivered through Windows Update in a phased roll out manner.

Windows 10 version 2004 doesn’t come with any big overhaul, but there is something for everyone. For gamers, Microsoft has worked on WDDM to improve multi-monitor support, video playback performance, reduce latency and increase frame rates during gameplay.

Microsoft has been testing the Windows 10 version 2004 with Insiders since February 2019 to patch up the bugs and other issues in the operating system. It comes after the company faced heavy criticism for buggy cumulative updates, which caused data deletion, performance issues, and lots of other problems for many consumers.

According to one rumour, May 2020 Update will begin rolling out to mainstream users on May 28.

  3. Windows 10 fails to update

    Thanks,

The Users list compared to the Profile list you posted earlier tell me there is not an issue with Users (a known issue where there is a profile in the list, but not actual User folder).

The error code suggests corruption in the CBS manifest:
Try these steps one at time until the issue is resolved or you run out of steps.

    Is Windows activated?
    No? Activate Windows 10

    Launch Command Prompt (Admin)

    If DisableWindowsUpdateAccess REG_DWORD 0x1

    launch regedit
    navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
change the value of DisableWindowsUpdateAccess to 0

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/defer-upgrades-in-windows-10

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.
