  2. NO, I did not.

I am on the other win10 PC creating a system recovery drive onto an 8gb usb drive.
Message was If I copy system files onto it, I can use that to restore the OS.

    So well see.

  3. Sounds like from an already running system with the gui working, you hold the shift key and then tell it to restart.
Not hold shift and press power button from dead cold.

Does it take a long long time to create a usb recovery disk?

Well it will be a BUST since it needs 16gb, and mine is 8. I might as well quit.

Ok, message said I need 8gb and the usb is 8gb, so I let it run...

    ARGHHH!!!!!!!
I went back to the other win10 pc.
Screen was blanked, so I hit a key. I hit the space key, instantly message pops up says 'canceling recovery drive'
    had to start again.
This upgrade to win10 I regret, it will take me days I think to get win10 working again.
I cant hang here at home all day like yesterday playing upgrades.

It will go black again that screen, what KEY should I click to safely restore the screen?

It may be best to bite the bullet and do a clean install of Windows 10 instead when you have time for the best results.

  6. How do I do that?
I do NOT want to lose my videos in the user folder.

A clean install will wipe out everything. You would want to back up anything that you do not want to lose first.

The tutorial below can help show you how to. In your situation, it may be best to create a Windows 10 installation USB, and boot from it to do a clean install.

Thanks, can I save windows.old and perhaps maybe restore win7 if I wish?

I suppose pull the hard drive out or boot ubuntu live usb to back up files.
That PC has two 1gb drives, I could back up files to the other drive.

You wouldn't be able to save the Windows.old folder doing a clean install.

Sure, you could use a ubuntu live USB to backup your files with.

If you like, you could also use the same method below to backup your files with, but using Windows 10 installation media instead.

  10. I came home and the recovery drive finished.
So when I boot the recovery drive, is there an option to say remove the installed nvidia driver?
I think the video driver is the problem.

Otherwise, I think the recovery drive can be used to repair or reinstall windows?

  11. Maybe the recovery drive wil let me get into safe mode?

The first screen asks you to choose the layout for your keyboard. Select the one you want to use, or if you don't see it listed, press on “See more keyboard layouts” to get the complete list of available layouts.

Once you’ve chosen your keyboard layout, on the “Choose an option” screen, select Troubleshoot.

The next steps you need to take to boot into Safe Mode are the same ones we showed in the second method from this guide, which is to follow this path: “Troubleshoot -> Advanced options -> Startup Settings -> Restart.” Then, press the 4 or the F4 key on your keyboard boot into minimal Safe Mode, press 5 or F5 to boot into “Safe Mode with Networking,” or press 6 or F6 to go into “Safe Mode with Command Prompt.”

You could boot into Safe Mode from the recovery drive, and uninstall the NVIDIA driver from Programs and Features or Device Manager.

I am at the screen after clicking troubleshoot, but I dont know what to do. I see no 'startup options' menu that leads to restart.

    The instructions are not good.
How can I get into safe mode?

  15. It seems you can restore the F8 legacy safe mode using this recovery drive.

Enable or Disable F8 Advanced Boot Options in Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials

You’ll need a Windows 10 Recovery Drive, which hopefully you created while your PC was working. Boot the Recovery Drive and select your keyboard layout. Then select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt. At the command prompt, enter these three lines, making sure to hit Enter at the end of each one:

    • c:
    • bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
    • exit

Select Turn off your PC. Boot the computer and repeatedly press and release F8 until the Advanced Boot Options menu pops up. Then you can select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking.
