Apparently Microsoft One Drive is baked intoWindows 10 and cannot be uninstalled. A recent email from Microsoft informs methat One Drive storage will be reduced from 15GB to 5GB and my option is to remove some files or pay up for storage.
Via a link in this email, I was able to view all my backed up files on One Drive (which must have taken place by default) because I was not aware of all these backed up files. However, when opening up One Drive and selecting the"Stop Syncing" option, I am informed that One Drive will keep all the backed up files but they will be deleted from my computer. So, it seems I have the following options:
Stop One Drive from syncing and lose all my files.
Back up my files to an external hard drive, and have them not conveniently viewable on my computer, or,
Pay up and give money to Microsoft for the extra storage space (which is what they seem to want).

I have already Googled this but have not found any good answers and would like to save some time on further research. What (if anything), am I missing here?
    Thanks.

    :)

"when opening up One Drive and selecting the"Stop Syncing" option, I am informed that One Drive will keep all the backed up files but they will be deleted from my computer. "

I think you are confusing your This PC folders with the ones in OneDrive. R-click the OneDrive icon in the system tray and click 'Settings to get the windows in the screenshots. In screen 1, you can select which OneDrive folders to sync but note that ONLY the pictures that I COPIED to the Pictures folder are synced. All my other ones in the This PC Pictures folder (a massive amount) are still there and I back them up to an ext drive. If you have the space, you can choose to back up the entire folder to the cloud but it takes up twice the space on your PC, the OneDrive Picture folder plus the This PC Pictures folder.

Also, in screen 2, you can choose whether to auto save new pictures or docs to the corresponding This PC folder or the corresponding OneDrive folder but not both at the same time. Here, I've chosen to save new pics and docs to This PC and I can decide later which to copy to OneDrive for syncing.

Bottom line, when they say they will be deleted from your PC if you're over the space limit, they will be deleted from the OneDrive folders NOT This PC folders. If you have all your files in the OneDrive folders, simply move them to your This PC folders or uncheck the OneDrive folder, say Music, for syncing and the space will either be freed up on your OneDrive cloud account. But backup of OneDrive folders NOT designated for syncing and This PC folders will be up to you, not OneDrive and not automatically. Hope this clears some things up and Good Luck

Thanks so much for the information. It will be a lot of help to me when I get the opportunity during this coming week to sit down and look at what I need to do. *Smile
