How to Add or Remove Troubleshoot Compatibility Context Menu in Windows 10


Most apps created for earlier versions of Windows will work in this version of Windows, but some older apps might run poorly or not at all. You can try using compatibility mode or run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter on most programs to detect and fix common compatibility problems.

When you right click on an application file (ex: .exe), you can click/tap on the Troubleshoot compatibility context menu item to run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter wizard on the program.

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the Troubleshoot compatibility context menu for all users in Windows 10.

*Warning You must be signed in as an administrator to add or remove the context menu.


EXAMPLE: "Troubleshoot compatibility" context menu






Here's How:

1. Do step 2 (add) or step 3 (remove) below for what you would like to do.


2. To Add "Troubleshoot compatibility" Context Menu
*note This is the default setting.
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

3. To Remove "Troubleshoot compatibility" Context Menu
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

4. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6. If prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7. sign in to apply.

8. You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

Step 1. Open with > choose another app




Step 2, click More apps





Step 3. scroll down to the bottom of the list to find Look for another app on this PC





Step 4. browse and find Windows Media Player wmplayer.exe then click Open

Windows10 start up / context menu crashing issue

Right Click Troubleshoot Compatibility


Done the reg edit to remove Troubleshoot Compatibility from the context menu.
It worked except on MsOffice 2010 desktop icons. They still show the entry.
Any idea on how to remove it?
