How to Add or Remove "Turn off display" cascading context menu in Windows


Information By default in Windows, you can set to automatically turn off the display after being idle for a specified amount of minutes.

When the display turns off, you would just need to move the mouse, touch the touchpad or touchscreen, click a mouse or touchpad button, or press a key for the display to turn back on.

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove a Turn off display desktop context menu that will let users Turn off display or Lock computer and Turn off display on demand in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

While you must be signed in as an administrator to be able to add or remove the "Turn off display" context menu, all users will be able to use the context menu.


CONTENTS:

EXAMPLE: "Turn off display" desktop context menu








OPTION ONE [/i] To Add "Turn off display" to Desktop Context Menu
1. Click/tap on the Download button below to download the same 32-bit or 64-bit version of 32-bit or 64-bit Windows.

2. Save the nircmd.zip file to your desktop.

3. Unblock the nircmd.zip file.

4. Open the nircmd.zip file, and copy the nircmd.exe file. (see screenshot below)



5. Open the C:\Windows\System32 folder in File Explorer, paste the nircmd.exe file into the System32 folder, and click/tap on Continue when prompted to approve. (see screenshots below)






6. You can now close the System32 and the ZIP windows if you like.

7. Click/tap on the Download button below to download the .reg file below.

8. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

9. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

10. When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

11. You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.





OPTION TWO [/i] To Remove "Turn off display" from Desktop Context Menu
1. Click/tap on the Download button below to download the .reg file below.
Remove_Turn_off_display_from_desktop_context_menu.reg

2. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

3. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

4. When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

5. You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

6. You can also delete the nircmd.exe file added to the C:\Windows\System32 folder if you are not using it for anything else.

How to Turn Off / Disable Touch Friendly Contextual Menu in Windows 10

Any news on this? How this works is horrible right now. Here are a few tips:

1) Make the touch context menu scroll with a swipe, like things with a scroll bar do.

2) Condition the display of the touch friendly context menu to the state of the tablet mode.

3) Add a switch to turn this on or off in the tablet mode settings.

Ideally you should implement point 1, ALWAYS display normal context menu when NOT in tablet mode and add a switch like this: "Use touch friendly context menu in tablet mode" on/off.

At least with a 10" tablet normal Windows interface is easy to operate and big buttons become kinda of a burden as they allow for less things on screen (like having to scroll the context menu)

Pls post the exact REG settings you added, and what's the behavior seen after adding the keys? Is the context menu showing the cascading menu you added?
