Windows 10: Windows photo app not opening pictures, instant crash to desktop

As title says, NO pics of any kind open in the app. App also crashes to desktop right after opening. This is on my dads pc in California (I am in Colorado trying to help through teamviewer) Dont know his system specs. What is most common cause and possible solutions? I have searched the web, but no definative answer

Windows 10 photo app crashes with a task bar

If I open ANY picture on my computer (doesn't matter if I attempt to do it with a photo viewer or photo app), desktop crashes - it starts blinking, task bar drops under the screen and opened programs on the task bar blink in random order. It doesn't stop
until restart. It's very annoying since I cannot open any picture to view because it means that I will need to restart my computer.

How can I prevent that? Can I remove the photo app (I don't use it anyways and don't see it doing in nearest future)?

 

Windows Phone app for desktop closes whenever I try to sync my music with iTunes

Trying to sync my Lumia 920 to my iTunes using the newest version of Windows Phone app for desktop results in an instant crash of the Windows Phone app for desktop.
Already tried re-installing the app, and restarting my computer.

 

Suggestion : ( assuming Photo is the only app that is problematic.)

1. Uninstall Photo app.
Use this tutorial :

Use either Option One or Option Two

2. After uninstall, go to Window Store and reinstall Photo.

 

Tried this just now.......no joy.
also scanned for virus and malware using defender and adw cleaner......no infections.

Try system restore. Pick a date that is MORE THAN 3 days ago as your restore point.

Look at any software installed 3 - 4 days ago and if it's something that also installed an explorer shell extension - uninstall the software.

trying restore now. ALL other suggestions have not worked

System restore failed (that is for another thread) problem remains. ALL other suggestions here, so far, have failed. I would easily be able to fix it if I were with the pc, bun not remotely as of yet.

 

The basic steps of using sfc /scannow then dism's restorehealth option would be the next thing I'd try (sometimes 3 or 4 runs may be needed to fix everything). If those fail then an in-place repair install may fix it (you'll keep installed apps and user files). There are tutorials for all three, but you really need to be on site for these, especially the repair install.

I will try the first two later, the third is not an option.....I am not physacally there, my dad is not able to perform the steps to do it

 

That's a pity, it can fix a lot of things. I think you should be able do the preparatory steps remotely - downloading the ISO, mount it and even run setup.exe to start the upgrade. After that your Dad's on his own (and you'll not have remote access until it's finished).

You know his abilities, I'll leave it up to you to decide if it's worth a try.

 

Other option to consider. Uninstall MS Photo App and use Windows Photo Viewer instead.
