    There is no option to select "Cortana Language" in taskbar search box settings (the only settings that I can see and change, screenshot):

    Is that possible to reinstall Cortana (with PowerShell or CMD command), without refresh or reinstall or reset all windows settings? *Think

    Default PC's region is set to US, I didn't change it.
    I reinstalled Cortana using this method: Reinstall Cortana on desktop Accidentally uninstalled app - Microsoft Community

    I don't want to reinstall desktop apps and apply personal settings and configuration again, after creators update release I installed Win 10 (using clean installation method) and desktop apps and applied my personal settings and configurations. I would try SFC or DISM.*Sad and post the result.

    I just got a new surface pro and set it up. Cortana was enabled. I think during setup I clicked allow access. I used the gpedit method to disable. Thanks. However, I looked at my other two machines. Once is a Pro 4 and I have Cortana disabled, but never did the GPedit (says not configured) and I do not see the registry key Windows Search under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\.

    Any reason this key is not on the other machines but Cotana is still disabled?

    The HKLM location is only also needed when manually setting the policy via the registry to have it applied to all users.

    It is not required when the policy is set via gpedit.msc.

    thanks. What I am wondering is on my other two machines, Surface Pro 4 and a Dell Workstation, I have Cortana disabled. I am not sure when I disabled it. The gpedit is set to not configured and the registry key is not listed either. Both are on Creator's update.

    When setting up the new surface pro, I clicked ok to grant Cortana access. I guess I should not have.

    I'm not sure unless you may have used some other method or policy to effectively disable Cortana.

    The policy in option 1 sets the HKLM registry location in option 2.

    Could it have been done by the privacy settings when upgrade to Creators Update? I think I might have said no (if that was an option). On this new surface pro, I selected yes about giving Cortana Access and maybe should have said no.

    I am not sure if that link is it. I am trying to make the new machine like my other two. The other two I did not use gpedit or a reg edit. I must be missing a setting. The other two show a search windows on the task bar and not Cortana. I can get that on the new one using gpedit, but trying to figure out how I did on the other ones without that.

    I think on my other systems, before Creators Update, I disabled the Cortana Web Search. From what I have read, this option is no longer available in Creator's update and to disable it, I would need to follow your guide linked here:

    Turn On or Off Search online and include web results in Windows 10 Windows 10 General Tips Tutorials

    So on my other two machines, the Search Windows is shown and not Cortana since I previously disabled the Web Search under the Anniversary Update. But Cortana is still running.

    I don't think I need Cortana running so I am just disabling it in the gpedit.msc.
