The Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is a new suite of standard protocols for the network layer of the Internet. IPv6 is designed to solve many of the problems of the current version of the Internet Protocol suite (known as IPv4) with regard to address depletion, security, auto-configuration, extensibility, and so on. IPv6 expands the capabilities of the Internet to enable new kinds of applications, including peer-to-peer and mobile applications.

IPv6 is enabled by default in Windows, but sometimes you find that you may need to disable IPv6. For example, when you join your PC to a domain.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) for all or specific network adapters in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to enable or disable IPv6.

OPTION TWO [/i] To Enable or Disable IPv6 in Network Adapter Properties

*note This option can be used in Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.
1. Open the Control Panel (icons view), and click/tap on the Network and Sharing Center icon.

2. Click/tap on the Change adapter settings link on the left side, and close the Network and Sharing Center if you like. (see screenshot below)



3. Right click or press and hold on the network adapter (ex: "Wi-Fi") you want, and click/tap on Properties. (see screenshot below)



4. Check (enable) or uncheck (disable) the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) box for what you want to do, and click/tap on OK. (see screenshot below)



5. When finished, you can close Network Connections if you like.





OPTION THREE [/i] To Enable IPv6 for Specific Network Adapter in PowerShell

*note This option can be used in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

1. Open an elevated PowerShell.

2. Enter the command below into the elevated PowerShell, and press Enter to see the current status of IPv6 for all network adapters. Make note of the network adapter name (ex: "Wi-Fi") you want to enable IPv6 for. (see screenshot below)
*Arrow Get-NetAdapterBinding -ComponentID ms_tcpip6




3. Enter the command below into the elevated PowerShell, and press Enter. (see screenshot below)
*Arrow Enable-NetAdapterBinding -Name "Adapter Name" -ComponentID ms_tcpip6

*note Substitute Adapter Name in the command above with the actual network adapter name (ex: "Wi-Fi") from step 2 you want to enable IPv6 for.

For example: Enable-NetAdapterBinding -Name "Wi-Fi" -ComponentID ms_tcpip6




4. When finished, you can close the elevated PowerShell if you like.

Xbox One can connect to networks using two protocols that allow devices to transmit information: the traditional IPv4 communications protocol, and its newer version, IPv6. For Xbox One to connect to the Internet using IPv6, your home router needs to
have IPv6 enabled, and your Internet service provider (ISP) must support IPv6.

IPv6 expands the number of possible IP addresses (the unique numbers that represent every device on the Internet). And—most useful for Xbox—the expansion removes the need for Network
Address Translation (NAT), which can interfere with multiplayer gaming and chat over IPv4 networks.

Your Xbox will work normally without IPv6 connectivity. However, for the best possible experience, we recommend enabling IPv6 on your network.

Here’s how to check:

• On your controller, Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
• Select Settings > All settings.
• Select Network > Network settings.

If your Xbox One has IPv6 connectivity, your Current Network Status will read IPv4 & IPv6. (To see your actual IP and gateway addresses, select Advanced settings.)

Several home routers support IPv6 but disable it by default. Check the manual for your router, or visit our Networking
Hardware Information support forum. If your router has IPv6 enabled, but your Xbox is connected on IPv4, I suggest that you try
contacting your ISP to see if IPv6 is available in your area.

World IPv6 Launch Solidifies Global Support for New Internet Protocol

Major Internet service providers (ISPs), home networking equipment manufacturers, and web companies around the world are coming together to permanently enable IPv6 for their products and services by 6 June 2012.

Organized by the Internet Society, and building on the successful one-day World IPv6 Day event held on 8 June 2011, World IPv6 Launch represents a major milestone in the global deployment of IPv6. As the successor to the current Internet Protocol, IPv4, IPv6 is critical to the Internet’s continued growth as a platform for innovation and economic development.





“The fact that leading companies across several industries are making significant commitments to participate in World IPv6 Launch is yet another indication that IPv6 is no longer a lab experiment; it's here and is an important next step in the Internet’s evolution,” commented Leslie Daigle, the Internet Society’s Chief Internet Technology Officer. “And, as there are more IPv6 services, it becomes increasingly important for companies to accelerate their own deployment plans.”

ISPs participating in World IPv6 Launch will enable IPv6 for enough users so that at least 1% of their wireline residential subscribers who visit participating websites will do so using IPv6 by 6 June 2012. These ISPs have committed that IPv6 will be available automatically as the normal course of business for a significant portion of their subscribers. Committed ISPs are:

• AT&T
• Comcast
• Free Telecom
• Internode
• KDDI
• Time Warner Cable
• XS4ALL

Participating home networking equipment manufacturers will enable IPv6 by default through the range of their home router products by 6 June 2012. Committed equipment manufacturers are:

• Cisco
• D-Link

Web companies participating in World IPv6 Launch will enable IPv6 on their main websites permanently beginning 6 June 2012. Inaugural participants are:

• Facebook
• Google
• Microsoft Bing
• Yahoo!

Content delivery network providers Akamai and Limelight will be enabling their customers to join this list of participating websites by enabling IPv6 throughout their infrastructure.
As IPv4 addresses become increasingly scarce, every segment of the industry must act quickly to accelerate full IPv6 adoption or risk increased costs and limited functionality online for Internet users everywhere. World IPv6 Launch participants are leading the way in this effort.

HOW TO ENABLE IPv6. has BEEN DISABLED.

SOMEHOW THE wifi ipV6 has been disabled. Need to re-activate. FULL AND COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE - NOT COMPUTER SAVEY.

 

stop ipv6 from automatically enabling

I already tried all of this and ipv6 re-enables...

I don't have ipv6 now, but problem is i can get it any moment, also i couldn't connect for some reason when ipv6 got enabled.

I now disabled ipv6 in firewall for outgoing connections, for all programs from any ip to ip and disabled ip helper so ipv6 cannot tunel over ipv4. And disabled all core networking rules which had v6 in it. That should do the trick i suppose. I still get some packets, when i enable under nic only ipv6, but that is ssdp and dhcp and that has nothing to do with ipv6 traffic itself, i cannot test it anyways, because i don't have ipv6 currently, but from what i read this should disable it..
