    Information To help improve the visibility of the pointer in Windows, you can enable to display pointer trails. This will show an adjustable trail behind the pointer whenever you move it.

    This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off to display pointer trails for your account in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

    CONTENTS:
    • Option One: Turn On or Off Display Pointer Trails in Mouse Properties
    • Option Two: Turn On or Off Display Pointer Trails in Registry Editor




    OPTION ONE [/i] Turn On or Off Display Pointer Trails in Mouse Properties
    1. Open the Control Panel (icons view), and click/tap on the Mouse icon.

    2. Do step 3 (on) or step 3 (off) below for what you want.


    3. To Turn On Display Pointer Trails
    A) Click/tap on the Pointer Options tab. (see screenshot below)

    B) Check the Display pointer trails box under Visibility.

    C) Adjust the slider for how short or long you want the pointer trails to be, and click/tap on OK.

    4. To Turn Off Display Pointer Trails

    Note This is the default setting.

    A) Click/tap on the Pointer Options tab. (see screenshot below)

    B) Uncheck the Display pointer trails box under Visibility, and click/tap on OK.

    OPTION TWO [/i] Turn On or Off Display Pointer Trails in Registry Editor
    1. Press the Win+R keys to open Run, type regedit into Run, and click/tap on OK to open Registry Editor.

    2. Navigate to the key below in the left pane of Registry Editor. (see screenshot below)

    3. In the right pane of the Mouse key, double click/tap on the MouseTrails string value (REG_SZ) to modify it. (see screenshot above)

    4. Do step 5 (on) or step 6 (off) below for what you want.


    5. To Turn On Display Pointer Trails
    A) Type a number between 2 (short) to 7 (long) for the pointer trails length you want, click/tap on OK, and go to step 7 below. (see screenshot below)

    6. To Turn Off Display Pointer Trails

    A) Type 0 (zero), click/tap on OK, and go to step 7 below. (see screenshot below)

    7. Close Registry Editor.

    8. restart the computer to apply.

  2. The combination of DX11, Mouse Pointer Trails and Fullscreen Games means no mouse cursor.

    Hi,

    For Mouse Pointer Trails, refer the steps below.

    Step 1: Click the bottom-left Start button on the desktop, enter
    mouse in the blank box and tap Mouse in the search results to open Mouse Properties.

    Step 2: Choose Pointer Options, select
    Display pointer trails
    and hit OK.

    Tip: To specify the length of pointer trails, you can move the
    small scale in Visibility to left or right.

    Also for the mouse issue, I suggest you to download the latest drivers for mouse from the manufacturer's website and check. Install the drivers in compatible mode and check as well.

    I suggest you to run the game in Direct X12 as this is the latest in Windows 10. Check if the issue persist.

    Ghostly or wispy trails appearing after words, icons, objects on desktop and in apps. I did this inadvertantly using "personalize" or "display" setrtings but dpn't kmow how to correct.

    The trails you're referring to is called pointer trails which is being enabled in the settings. We recommend that you adjust the settings to address this matter. Follow the steps below:

    • Go to Settings > Click Devices.
    • On the left panel, choose Mouse.
    • Select Additional mouse options.
    • Go to Pointer Options > Uncheck Display pointer trails.
    • Click Apply then OK.

    This issue might occur if the mouse settings are corrupted.

    • Have you made any changes to your computer prior to this issue?

    I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1: Turn off the mouse pointer trails and check if you are able to access the mouse pointer in the Windows media center.



    • Press ”Windows+R” to open the run window and type
      “Main.cpl”.
    • Under “Pointer Options” tab, uncheck "Display pointer trails"
    • Click OK to save settings.

    Method 2: Also change pointer scheme to Windows Standard or Default
    as below.

    • Press ”Windows+R” to open the run window and type
      “Main.cpl”.
    • On the Pointers tab, in the
      Scheme
      box, click Windows Standard or click Windows Default.
    • Click OK.
