Information A wake timer is a timed event that wakes the PC from hibernate states at a specific time. For example, a task in Task Scheduler set with the "Wake the computer to run this task" check box checked.

Important wake timers are a new class of wake timer in Windows 10 that includes things like reboots after a Windows update that requires one. They supersede all other settings.

This tutorial will show you how to view a list of active wake timers set to wake the computer in Windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to generate a list of active wake timers.

  2. Can wake timers be cancelled from the command prompt or a script?

I have been trying until I bleed to stop Windows 10 waking from sleep, but it seems there is absolutely no way of stopping it setting wake timers to perform updates. So I am reduced to running "powercfg -waketimers" every time I put the machine to sleep
and then disabling any wake timers in the task scheduler control panel, which takes an annoying amount of time. Is there instead a way of cancelling wake timers from the command line, and would it be possible to automate the cancelling of wake timers with
    a script?

  3. PC wakes up immediately after going into Sleep mode and also immediately after shutting down!

The other thing that can wake your PC is a scheduled task. Some scheduled tasks like an anti-virus app that schedules a scan can set a wake timer to wake your PC at specific time to run an app or command. To see a list of wake timers set on your computer,
you can use a Command Prompt command. You’ll have to run Command Prompt with administrative privileges for this one. To do so, follow these steps:

    • Hit Start, type command, and when you see the Command Prompt app, right-click on it and choose
      Run as administrator.
    • In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and then press
      Enter
      : powercfg -waketimers
    • If you have a wake timer, you can either disable that specific wake timer or disable all wake timers. If you want to stop one task from waking your computer, you can uninstall the app that created the task or adjust the scheduled task settings.

Since you are using Windows 10, you’ll also have another option other than just enabling or disabling the wake timer. This option is called
Important Wake Timers Only and wakes your PC only for major Windows system events like a scheduled restart of your PC outside active hours following a Windows update. You can try setting your wake timers to
Important Wake Timers Only and see if it solves the issue. If your PC is still waking up more often than you’d like, you can always set wake timers to
    Disabled instead.

    Regards.

    Hello KB, *Smile

If your BIOS/UEFI and computer supports it, Wake On LAN can wake a computer from shutdown state. This is a bit old below, but you might see if it may help some.
