Windows 10: Windows 10 computer turns itself ON

I have a new to me refurbished (from Amazon) Dell Optiplex 9020 desktop with Windows 10. Attached to it are a Dell SE2719H monitor, Logitech Trackball, Brother Laser Printer, and Linksys Router. Everything seems to work fine, except ...

In the evening, I turn it OFF at START>Power>Shut Off; the light at the ON/OFF power button at the front top left of the computer itself goes off (disappears). I do not turn off the monitor; when the computer is turned off, the screen displays "No VGA device is detected", and goes black.

Then, in the morning, the computer is ON. At some point during the night, the computer turns itself back on. How, why, does it do that? (I assume ... correctly? ... a monitor does not have the capability to turn a computer itself on.)

A Google search yielded a suggestion that it may be the mouse (which in my case is the Logitech Trackball). So, as suggested there, at START>Device Manager>Mice and other pointing devices>HID compliant mouse>Power management, I unchecked "Allow this device to wake the computer" (even though I don't know what an "HID compliant mouse" is). That evening, I turned the computer off at START>Power>Shut Off; in the morning, it was ON.

Other than unplugging the computer from the wall in the evening, I don't know what to do. I will appreciate any thoughts!

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Occasionally when you sign in to Windows 10, you may see a Get even more out of Windows notification screen to suggest ways you can finish setting up your device.

These suggestions include setting up services powered by your Microsoft account:

• Set up Windows Hello
• Link your phone and PC
• Do more across devices
• Get Office 365 ready
• Protect your files with OneDrive

Starting with at least Windows 10 build 18945, a new "Suggest ways I can finish setting up my device to get the most out of Windows" on/off setting was added to the Notifications & actions page in Settings for this.

This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off the Get even more out of Windows screen at startup with suggestions to finish setting up your device for your account in Windows 10.

OPTION ONE

Turn On or Off "Get even more out of Windows" Suggestions in Settings
1. Open Settings, and click/tap on the System icon.

2. Click/tap on Notifications & actions on the left side. (see screenshot below)

3. Check (on - default) or uncheck (off) Suggest ways I can finish setting up my device to get the most out of Windows for what you want under Notifications on the right side.

4. When finished, you can close Settings if you like.











OPTION TWO

Turn On or Off "Get even more out of Windows" Suggestions using a REG file
*note The downloadable .reg files below will modify the DWORD value in the registry key below.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UserProfileEngagement

ScoobeSystemSettingEnabled DWORD

0 = Off
1 = On
1. Do step 2 (on) or step 3 (off) below for what you would like to do.


2. To Turn On "Get even more out of Windows" Suggestions
*note This is the default setting.
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

Turn_ON_Get_even_more_out_of_Windows_suggestions_at_startup.reg





3. To Turn Off "Get even more out of Windows" Suggestions
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

Turn_OFF_Get_even_more_out_of_Windows_suggestions_at_startup.reg




4. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6. When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7. If you like, you can now delete the downloaded .reg file.
