How to: See Active Power Plan Scheme in Windows 10

Information A power plan is a collection of hardware and system settings that manages how your computer uses power. Power plans can help you save energy, maximize system performance, or achieve a balance between the two.

This tutorial will show you to see what the current active power plan scheme is for your account in Windows 10.

Note Windows 10 provides the following default plans:
    • Balanced - Offers full performance when you need it and saves power when you don't. This is the best power plan for most people.
    • Power saver - Saves power by reducing PC performance and screen brightness. If you're using a laptop, this plan can help you get the most from a single battery charge.
    • High performance - Maximizes screen brightness and might increase PC performance. This plan uses a lot more energy, so your laptop battery won't last as long between charges.
    • Ultimate Performance - Only available in the Windows 10 Pro for Workstations edition starting with Windows 10 build 17101. Provides ultimate performance on higher end PCs. It builds on the current High-Performance policy, and goes a step further to eliminate micro-latencies associated with fine grained power management techniques. As the power scheme is geared towards reducing micro-latencies it may directly impact hardware; and consume more power than the default balanced plan. The Ultimate Performance power policy is currently not available on battery powered systems.
    • Custom power plan - These are only available if either your PC manufacturer (OEM) provided additional power plans, and/or you create a custom power plan. These are available to all users.

    Power plan?

Upon checking, it seems that there's nothing wrong with your system. It is usual that you have to double-click your mouse before your monitor wakes up.

For the meantime, we suggest changing the power plan by following the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + S.
    • Type in Power Settings.
    • On the pop-up window, choose Additional power settings.
    • Select High performance.

After changing the power plan, we suggest that you monitor the changes made and check if that will work for you.

Get back to us if you need further help.

  3. Script for power plan

Yes sorry about the mix up, i was talking about power saver as in the power plan. anyway here is the vbs,bat and txt for powercfg /l

    //VBS

    strComputer = "."

    Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")

    Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery("Select * from Win32_Battery",,48)

    For Each objItem in colItems

    Wscript.Echo "BatteryStatus: " & objItem.BatteryStatus

    Next

REM [this activates the power plan bat file]

    Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

    WshShell.Run chr(34) & "C:\Users\raymo\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\BatConfig.bat" & Chr(34), 7

REM [the trailing 7 runs the batch file minimised, a 0 would run it hidden]

    Hi Jonah,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community. I understand that you have an issue with power plans.

need to change power plan in power options

Here is where i found the solution .I had to do it in reverse because the solution was to use a "selected power option " only.

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/specify-custom-active-power-plan-windows

    1. Open administrative Command Prompt. Type
    POWERCFG /LIST
and hit Enter to get list of available power schemes; here * implies active plan. Please note down the
GUID for the plan you’d like to set as a specific plan.

    2. Press Windows Key + R combination, type put
gpedit.msc in Run dialog box and hit Enter to open the
    Local Group Policy Editor.

    3. In the left pane, navigate here:

See Active Power Plan Scheme in Windows 10 Use-Specific-Power-Plan-11.png

    4. In the right pane of the window shown above, double click
Specify a custom active power plan
setting which is Not Configured by default to get this:

See Active Power Plan Scheme in Windows 10 Use-Specific-Power-Plan-2.png

    5. In the above shown window, firstly click Enabled and then in the
Options section, input the Custom Active Power Plan (GUID) as we copied from
step 1. Click Apply followed by OK. You may close the
Local Group Policy Editor now. Now if you try to set power schemes manually by clicking battery icon in the taskbar notification area, you won’t be able to do so:

See Active Power Plan Scheme in Windows 10 Use-Specific-Power-Plan-3.png

**** In number 5 above it states to 'enable' but since mine had been enabled I had to uncheck that part' and when I went back to the power options the "locked part was gone" . Halleluia I now can simply choose which power plan I want or if I do all the
above it will lock onto the one I choose . (That is what I had done quite some time ago ) but was having issues with that option recently .

    Hope this helps.
