How to Add or Remove Dropbox in Navigation Pane of File Explorer in Windows 10

Dropbox is a file hosting service operated by American company Dropbox, Inc. that offers cloud storage, file synchronization, personal cloud, and client software.

Dropbox is a home for all your photos, docs, videos, and files. Anything you add to Dropbox will automatically show up on all your computers, phones and even the Dropbox website so you can access your stuff from anywhere.

If you installed the Dropbox app on your PC, then you will now have a Dropbox folder in the navigation pane of File Explorer by default.

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove Dropbox from the navigation pane of File Explorer for your account in Windows 10.

  2. Modify Navigation Pane

Thank you, sorry it has taken so long to follow up.

The suggested actions did not resolve the problem. I want to add/remove items from the navigation pane (left hand side) of a windows explorer window. When I reset the folders, it did remove my libraries from the navigation pane; which I expected. They
are not hard to get back so that is not an issue.

The current issue is I want to remove "Dropbox" from the navigation pane. More fundamentally, I want the ability to remove or add items to the navigation pane.

  3. Modify Navigation Pane

I like many things about Windows 10.

One thing I would like to be able to do is remove items from the windows explorer navigation pane. For example, windows has included my "Dropbox" account folder in the navigation pane. I have a dropbox account and yes there is a folder on my PC for that.
However, I rarely use dropbox (it is a legacy from some folks I used to work with). How can I remove that from the root navigation pane? An alternate question, how does windows decide what to place in the navigation pane?

I downloaded the Remove Dropbox bat file and it works great, BUT every time I restart the computer the massively annoying Dropbox folder reappears, is there any way to get rid of the Dropbox folder in the navigation pane permanently?

Thanks Brink, I disabled Dropbox from opening at startup and that works BUT if you then open the Dropbox app at any time then restart, the annoying folder reappears in the navigation pane. This happens even if you pause syncing before the restart. There is no way I can find to exit the Dropbox app once it is started manually.
So unless you are willing to never run the Dropbox app on your computer, disabling Dropbox from opening at startup does not work.

There is a thread on the Dropbox forum about this problem and nobody so far has figured out how to keep the Dropbox folder from reappearing after restarts. Many complaints to Dropbox support have been ignored.

I just tested this again, and Dropbox is not being restored to the navigation pane for me after a restart with Dropbox still set to run at startup, and even when opening the Dropbox folder.

Do you have the latest Dropbox app version installed?

    Yes have latest Dropbox.

Not sure what the Add versions of the .bat file are for since Dropbox puts the folder in the navigation pane whether you like it or not! *Smile
Guess something odd is causing the behavior on my computer since your setup works. I will just have to keep using the bat file to delete Dropbox folder every time I restart, not really a problem just an annoyance. My main grip is the intrusive nature of some new software that modifies things without your consent and then provides no way to remove it.

I suppose as a workaround for now, you could add the Remove_Dropbox_from_navigation_pane.bat file to your Startup folder to have it run automatically at startup for you.
