How to Change Text Size for Title Bars in Windows 10

The title bar is a bar located at the top of a window, desktop app, or dialog box that displays it's name.

You can make the text of title bars on your screen easier to see by making them larger while keeping your display set to its recommended DPI.

The font size of text in title bars is set to 9 by default in Windows 10. In previous Windows, the size was set to 11 by default.

This tutorial will show you how to change the font size of text in title bars to what you want for your account in Windows 10.

*note Windows apps (aka: modern Store apps) are not affected by this setting.

*note If you change your DPI scaling level, it will also change the text size of title bars to scale with the DPI setting.

    1. If you haven't already, download the latest version of System Font Size Changer from WinTools.

    4. Perform the following actions: (see screenshot below)
    • Select (dot) Title bar.
    • Check or uncheck Bold if you want bold text or not.
    • Adjust the slider for the font size you want.

  3. Can't set text size of title bars

I want to change the size of text on my display. In Windows 8.1, rather than overall scaling I could set the size of certain items such as title bars by going to:

Settings > System > Display > Advanced Display Settings > Advanced sizing of text and other items > Change only the text size

This lets you set the size of Title Bars and other specific items.
However, in Windows 10 I see “Change only the text size” but it doesn’t let me change anything.
What could be going on? How do I change those items?

Hi, I recently returned as an W10 Insider on my spare laptop and have updated to latest build 15055.rs2. Am surprised to discover they have taken away the ability to increase text sizes of title bars, menus, etc via the normal display settings. I find these reg files above are not working for me, I've tried different sizes and rebooted but it doesn't change anything. My eyesight isn't the best and I always increase these sizes and I don't want to change the scaling from 100% to 125%. Is there any manual registry tweak I could use instead? Many thanks.

    Hello Debbie, *Smile

I just tested the size 20 from Option 2 in build 15055, and it's still working for me.

If you haven't already, see if only signing out and it after fully merging the .reg file may work instead.

If it still won't work for you, then please export the registry key below, and upload it here. I'll be happy to take a look at it to see if anything stands out as wrong.

Thank you so much, that has done the trick, it's now working OK and size is changed. I don't know what I'd do without all your wonderful little .reg files! *Biggrin

I'll provide insider feedback and ask that they bring back the function to change sizes in the display settings as before. Here's hoping........

    Many thanks again.

Yup, just got the latest update and MS has totally removed the ability to customize different text sizes from any configuration screens. Madness.

OH MY GOD, thank you. This has been driving me around the freakin' bend because I want my text to be readable WITHOUT all my images being blown up by 25% (and thus distorted). Apparently this is too much for Microsoft to wrap its big stupid brain around!

    You have saved my sanity.
