Your desktop background (also called wallpaper) can be a picture from your personal collection or included with Windows, a solid color, or a slide show playing selected pictures randomly on all displays.

When you turn off (uncheck) show desktop background image, your desktop background will only show as solid black.

When you turn on (check) show desktop background image, then whatever you set for your desktop background will show again.

This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off showing the desktop background image for your account in Windows 10.

OPTION ONE [/i] To Turn On or Off Desktop Background Image in Settings
1. Open Settings, and click/tap on the Ease of Access icon.

2. Click/tap on Display on the left side, and turn on (default) or off Show desktop background image on the right side. (see screenshot below)



3. When finished, you can close settings if you like.





OPTION TWO [/i] To Turn On or Off Desktop Background Image in Control Panel
1. Open the Control Panel, and click/tap on the Ease of Access Center icon.

2. Click/tap on the Make the computer easier to see link. (see screenshot below)



3. Check or uncheck (default) Remove background images (where available), and click/tap on OK. (see screenshot below)



4. When finished, you can close Ease of Access Center if you like.

changing the background images

In order to help you better, could you please confirm a couple of things.

• Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?
• Are you referring to desktop background image or lock screen image?

I suggest you to follow the below steps to change the background picture and check if it helps.

• In the search type as ‘Settings’ and click on it.
• Select ‘Personalization’, under ‘Background’ option select as ‘Picture’.
• Under ‘Choose your picture’ select any picture accordingly or you can browse the picture from your computer.

Slideshow as desktop background.

I suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.

• Press Windows Logo Key + I. Then click on Personalization.
• Click on Background to change it.

Desktop background gone black after a few minutes of use on laptop.

Desktop background and taskbar going black could be due to software conflicts.

We would like to know some information to better assist you with your concern:

• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
• Did you get any error messages or error codes?

In the meantime, we suggest that you try to check if the "Show Windows Background" option is turned on. Follow the steps below:

• Open Settings in the Start menu.
• Go to Ease of Access, then on the left side, click
  Other options.
• Turn on Show Windows Background and check if it works.

Lost desktop background

I did a Search & Distroy spyware scan the other day, and one of the suggested "fixes" said something about removing Active Desktop. Like the muppet I am I clicked yes and am now without a desktop background picture.

Does anyone have an idea how to reverse this? If I try to select a picture it's simply not added as a background.
