How to: Change Layout of Touch Keyboard in Windows 10


Information You can use different keyboards with Windows to fit your needs. The most common is a physical, external keyboard that you plug into your PC. Windows 10 includes a touch keyboard for PCs.

You can currently select to use the Default, One-handed, Handwriting, and standard Full keyboard layouts for the touch keyboard.

This tutorial will show you how to change the keyboard layout of the touch keyboard to what you want for your account in Windows 10.


Note Starting with Windows 10 build 16215, the touch keyboard has been updated to include the following new features:

• One-handed touch keyboard - New keyboard layout added to provide the most comfort when holding the device in your hands! It looks similar to a phone keyboard – smaller and more narrow. You can freely put this smaller touch keyboard wherever you want and use it with one hand. To switch between languages, press and hold on the &123 key. Note: This keyboard takes the place of the split keyboard layout
• A new touch keyboard settings menu - Updated the way to switch into Handwriting panel and other keyboard layouts. You can find our keyboard settings menu icon at the top left corner of the touch keyboard. It’s a one-stop settings panel for all the layouts (Default, One-handed, Handwriting, Full) and modes (Docked, Floating), as well as a shortcut for jumping to language settings.
• Evolve the handwriting experience: Introducing a new XAML-based handwriting panel – with more gestures, easier editing, emoji, and more!

Starting with Windows 10 build 17063, the touch keyboard now supports the split layout – an ergonomic layout designed to be used with both hands, one on each side of your tablet.

1. While you have the touch keyboard open, click/tap on the keyboard settings menu button, and click/tap on the Default, Split, One-handed, Handwriting, or standard Full layout you want to switch to.

Make standard keyboard layout as default in Windows 10.

Original title: How to make standard keyboard layout as default instead of handwriting panel for touch keyboard in windows 10?

How do I make the standard keyboard layout the default for the touch keyboard instead of the (now default) handwriting panel in windows 10? I use touchscreen and pen for my input.

 

*Windows 10 version 1709 Bug* - Touch Keyboard does not supports Standard Keyboard layout with most keyboard layouts

Prior to upgrading to Windows 10 version 1709 I was able to successfully use the Touch Keyboard with the Standard Keyboard layout option and the United Kingdom QWERTY keyboard layout. Following the upgrade to version 1709 upgrade this no longer works, and
the Standard Keyboard layout option now only appears to work if/when the US QWERTY keyboard layout is selected.

If you have upgraded to Windows 10 version 1709 and are/were using the Touch Keyboard with the Standard Keyboard option and a non US QUERTY keyboard, please join this discussion and let people know what is or isn't working for you.

If you are in the Windows Insider program and were one if the people who provided feedback to Microsoft that the Touch Keyboard with Standard Keyboard option was broken, please join this discussion and hopefully we can get this fixed.

At least for me, it doesn't appear to change it's size when doing that.
