How to Enable or Disable Don't Display Username at Sign-in in Windows 10

    A new Other user tile.

If the policy is enabled and a user signs in as Other user, the full name of the user is not displayed during sign-in. In the same context, if users type their email address and password at the sign in screen and press Enter, the displayed text Other user remains unchanged, and is no longer replaced by the users first and last name, as in previous versions of Windows 10. Additionally, if users enter their domain user name and password and click Submit, their full name is not shown until the Start screen displays.

If the policy is disabled and a user signs in as Other user, the Other user text is replaced by the users first and last name during sign-in.

Your implementation of this policy depends on your security requirements for displayed logon information. If you have devices that store sensitive data, with monitors displayed in unsecured locations, or if you have devices with sensitive data that are remotely accessed, revealing logged on users full names or domain account names might contradict your overall security policy.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable if the username is displayed during sign-in when a user signs in as Other user in Windows 10.

*Warning You must be signed in as an administrator enable or disable don't display username at sign-in.

  2. Usernames or logon IDs shown before signing in to Windows 10

I has enabled in group policy to hide the usernames or logon IDs before signing in to Windows 10 but even after a GPUPDATE /FORCE and a reboot, the usernames are still listed on the actual logon screen UI before signing in to Windows 10. The policy does not seem to take effect. I set the policy back to Not Configured until we see why this will not take effect. I am on a Standalone machine.

Do Not Display Last Signed-in User Name on Windows 10 Sign-in

I noticed that when doing this, the sign-in screen's background no longer respects the setting of the previous user. Instead, it uses whatever is set by the hidden administrator account. Luckily, TenForums also provides steps for how to login to this account: Administrator account - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Edit: Nope, this only worked temporarily. It either switched back to a default Spotlight photo after making the administrator account inactive again, or simply changed it back to a Spotlight photo for some other reason.

Does anyone know how to properly change the sign-in screen background color/picture (not the lock screen) when not displaying the user name?
